Google Maps - Coffeeshop List?

Post by abcdabcd »

Is there a google maps with all the coffeeshops on there? I saw somebody here (Sombrero, I think) had created a Google maps of clubs in Amsterdam. Is there something like this for coffeeshops? If not, where can I find a list of all the coffeeshops in NL with their addresses? I could probably get them all added in there, this would be convenient for me since my phone has GPS so getting directions, finding the nearest CS etc.. would be much easier.

Something like this?

http://www.amsterdamhashmap.com/

Or if you want to go nationwide

http://www.wietinkaart.nl/

And there is also the map right here.

its pretty old, and only has the centrum shops, but still a nice bookmark to have:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&ms ... 64116&z=14

It would be great if someone did an update of this, with all the CS's included. edit: looks like the Amsterdam Hash Map is exactly that!

I've noticed that map, still listing coffeeshops that are actually closed, so it needs updating in that respect. It's a handy map for reference but not so if you're out roaming with an internet phone for instance. I have a GPS phone but need and want a full map that can be utilised while off line.

BTW, this is why I'm designing a map that has everything on it, all coffeeshops as well as museums, smoker friendly, pubs, restaurants, top sights, trams, canal taxi, shops, markets, etc, etc, etc, all on one map. It's not been done yet and will take a while to complete it all.

I've stumbled across some more. Here's one with the ACD moniker though no clue as to the author:

http://maps.google.com/maps/mm?ie=UTF8& ... .0842&z=14

Here's another that seems more recently updated:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie ... .0842&z=14
Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

I've made a few attempts to plot all of the shops on Google Maps but the size of the task has always overwhelmed me. Most of my evenings are already spent answering emails and PMs, enabling forum memberships and updating the main site. Nevertheless, I'm now working on finding all of the shops on Streetview for a future update and have already done most of the 1012 postcode area. Stay tuned...

I agree, it is a huge task mapping out things like this.

Just doing the coffeeshops only is one task but the job I've given myself is to do all the other sites and attractions within Amsterdam as well as the coffeeshops, all on the same map. Oh well, this is only a hobby for me and will takes ages to do, but it will make a good poster in the end, something you can't produce properly with a plain and bland Google map.

For me, it's all fun doing the research and visiting A'dam now and then, so until then lots of web design and graphic design ahead. Just wish I had more time to work on all this, but busy with other work stuff.

An unenviable task, but i look forward to seeing the results

Somebody should knock out a complete JPEG map so that both iPhone and Android users can use the map without incurring roaming charges that Google map entails.........

Yeah something like that but, actually on Google Maps so you can easily get directions with just a couple clicks. On that map they're using the image of Google maps but, if you click the links on the map it just seems to get you an address.

So something like this below but, this only has AMS coffeeshops not rest of NL. -
How up to date are the CS here - http://www.wietinkaart.nl/

I definitely wouldn't be adding these manually. I would have it automated and get a script coded to scrape the addresses from that site or another site with the most addresses and have the script import them into Google Maps.

Or how updated is this - https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/DirectoryIntro.html it seems to have addresses for a lot of CS all over NL.

It's a shame Google maps isn't very multi-coloured and has a very basic and sparse design that leaves out a great deal of other useful information that's crucial to navigate by.

However, Google street views is unbelievably awesome.

Ok, I got it done. I had all the coffeeshops in the ACD directory imported into Google Maps. I don't know how accurate this is, whatever was listed as closed in the directory I left out but, it might still not be completely accurate. If you see any that have been closed or name has changed, let me know and I'll remove or modify them.

I'm not going to share this map anywhere else since I got the addresses from the ACD directory and I didn't ask permission either since I was just going to use it for personal use. I'd suggest the same to not share it elsewhere unless it's ok from the admin(s).

Here's the link - hope it helps:

Google Map - Netherlands Coffeeshops - ACD Directory

I'm also planning on doing the same on a separate map for smartshops.

Why doesn't the ACD site integrate the map 'abcdabcd' coded into an all encompassing coffeeshop map of the entire Netherlands on a complete web page, held and offered within the ACD site in an HTML frame or something?
This seems to be the most logical step or am I missing something here?
