islandgurl wrote:Excellent report and pics, CSS! I stayed in Haarlem last November above Indica coffeeshop and got to wake up to that windmill outside my front window every day. T'was heaven, thank you for taking the time and sharing with us... brought back many good memories. 8)
cheers islandgurl! next trip i go for a few days, i reckon id like to stay there too, be a nice quiet place in the evenings i think.
ftcarer wrote:nice 1 , I think I saw part of the horse place from the Overtoom side , just looks like someone has a stable stuck onto their hse Smile nice little write up though
cheers man, yeah thats the place, you eoulndt believe how fancy it is inside.

rufus wrote:Thanks for the report CSS, the pics are great too
cheers mate !
palui wallnuts wrote:excellent reportin css, i got that nepal pollen from katsu few weeks back, proper nice Cool some of the best nepales ive had (always prefer sieved/polm to hand rubbed)
+good pics, like the 'sightseeing walk around town' 1, looks exactly like amsterdam, but with shorter buildings Laughing
thanks man, katsu is awesome isnt it. you must check out haarlem, even just for the beers by the main square.

ooh aaar traktor wrote: Good report pal! If you don't mind me asking...what field of work were you looking for? I'm considering something similar myself, I work in IT personally and work with many guys who have contracted over there.

Not adverse to pulling a pint or two but would rather utilise my trade skills!
cheers! when it comes to office work, i enjoy facilities/reception stuff. i like talking to people but i resent sales, so it suits me fine. i didnt look for this line of work whilst out there though, only service jobs.
Roll up wrote:great report CSS. I especially loved the video fo the coffeeshops. That went straight into bookmarks. Now all of us never-beens will know what we are supposed to be looking for!

you hurt my feelings on the Usher comments though! 50's old stuff is okay, new stuff terrible and I will not defend lil jon, but I find Usher to be the only real R&B singer with longevity!
ha ha ha, we will have to agree to disagree on the music front mate ha ha, no offense personally to you. im happy you like the video, i made it partly to satify my own geeky/obsessive nature, but partly also to spread the word on these places. i love em i do! cheers!
AmDamMan wrote:Hey, nice report. Just wondering what sort of pay and amount of hours you were offered for the bar work and how hard it was to get the job offer?
hey, it was actually fairly easy to find bar work in Rembrandspplein, bars like the coco outback etc. have a huge turnover of staff, and take on legally registered backpackers/year abroaders. however the reason for high turnover is obvious, its an arse of a job. long long long hours. i didnt ask the wages, but the minimum wage in holland is suprisngly good.

willjay wrote:thanks
thank you man!
kingdoc wrote:Great report! i hear ya about the lack of work + the high rents right now.
cheers mate, high rents, fuck yes, but really if you are willing to sacrifice, you can get a job.... we decided we would rather work easier here and visit the dam, than slave away just be there 24/7.

Good report fella, shame it didnt work out with staying there for good. I dont blame you though, no point working your arse off out there and not get to enjoy the place. At least you had an excellent trip anyway :)

Hey thanks for a great report and some really beautiful photos. I'm looking forward to trying some laughing buddha from Rokerij. Is it one of them in particular that you recommend, or doesn't matter? I walked by Sommentereng once and was quite taken by the look of the place. Will definitely stop in next time. Thanks again for taking the time and effort. Enjoyed watching the coffeeshop tour on youtube as well.

Sorry to read the long-stay plan didn't happen this time around, but thanks for a great report and attached pics.

On a side note, I watched your YouTube vid of exotic foods from your travels and would suggest you go on the next series of "I'm a celeb, get me out of here!" That spider looked so awful!

Great Report CSS and a beautiful orange shirt you have there. So you used to like Happy hardcore. I released a few tunes back in the day. Frightening how long ago that was. Was hoping to go to the Ajax game but could not sorted in the end. I am out for Dance Valley the weekend after instead. i used to drink in the So bar before games until my godfather got banned for having a heated argument with his brother LOL. We must have crossed paths at some point.

I agree completely on LB from Rokerij...its always my first stop - normally the Singel one.

Enjoy the match mate. I've got to rush home from Kensington to try and make the second half on Chelsea TV.

Hope the tubes will be alright.

That is an awesome report! It is making me want to start planning TWO trips to the 'Dam for 2011.
Did you think you'd get rid of me that easily?

hey man, nice to see you are a fellow blue too.
Yes mate, was a season ticket holder for about 7 years but last time I bought 1 was the 2002/03 season - right before we started wining things! It has become so expensive that I just don't bother anymore apart from the odd game (usually London derbies).
are you heading over for the game?
Sadly can't make the game in 'Dam, away with work that weekend. I was strictly a White Horse drinker - a few of my mates still live round there (1 in Parsons Green, another in Dawes Road) but the majority of us would come down from East London. Never was a fan of So Bar but you get all the faces in there, no doubt.
i used to love my happy hardcore and jungle
Nice, you make me feel old saying that son (I'm 32!). totally still love all that music, although after 1996 and all that 'intelligent' malarkey it died a bit for me. Anyway stay lucky - and peep this:

have finally got a photo of my tattoo done on this trip, i love it!

i got it in the same colour and shading style of the chelsea one which is already one the other leg, so that they match.

like i said, 'derma donna tattoo parlour', same road as green place and basjoe, highly recommended 8)
