Me and the BF are moving to the dam in April 2011. I will be getting work in a call centre and my BF works as a Software Developer and is looking for any companies to approach for roles. He is most experienced in database design and c#\.net.
Can anyone advise any companies to approach? We are looking at advertised posts and visiting a couple of agencies including the White door when we visit next week. Does anyone on the board work in a role like this?
On a rather seperate note, we are bringing cats over from the uk, do landlords generally have a problem with this?
When I found a job here (sort in a field related to IT but in the consulting space) I used Monster. A number of the English-language jobs are posted there. I did not use employment agencies (although sometimes you simply must apply for jobs they posted). Employment agencies have very bad reputations here, for example posting jobs that do not exist just to get a huge list of resumes.
My advice is for your bf to start networking. Try to meet people working here who can advise him of job openings. LinkedIn (like Facebook for professional/career positions) is popular here.

of great jobs on monster and will try to avoid agencies where possible! Also never used LinkedIn but excited to get started on our way! x
Am on LinkedIn and it's fairly good, had a few contacts but nothing has come of it as yet.
Registered with quite a few agencies and most of them haven't even responded, had one get back to me last week about a possible job, but haven't heard from them since. They said they got my details from Monster.
One agency in particular sends me CV's in my current position, was sorely tempted to mail them back and ask them why they'd think I'd want to deal with them when they can't even give me the courtesy of an acknowledgement.....
