Cheap hotel challenge Sept 8-11

Post by dude65 »

For reasons not under my control, I need/want to be in Amsterdam for 3 nights September 8. Unfortunately, with IBC 2010 starting on the 10th, the hotel situation is somewhat cramped and rates are starting to get silly.

Does anybody have any good ideas for a hotel that has a single room for a decent rate? Shared shower/toilet ok in this case.

Even Vijaya is asking 110 for a single. Ouch.

Update: Just saw another email from vijaya. The original price quoted was in error. Now they want 110, yikes.

try priceline bidding - you might get lucky and get a 4 star hotel for 50 quid. Then again sounds like town is pretty full on those dates so good luck.
How much did you produce?

I had the same problem, also going to the Dam then with 2 mates (one male, one female) had loads of probs trying to get a single room for my male friend and that was 8 weeks ago. There appears to be sweet FA available. Decent hostels also pretty much booked up - so yeah, good luck in the search...

Thanks for your ideas guys.

Yes, I have looked at Haarlem but so far have found only crazy rates there as well. May have to re-visit that idea though with another hotel reservation site.

I've considered Priceline also. Have had good success with it twice before (Moevenpick, NH City Center). But no chance for Queens Day this year. So I assume it will be similar now.

I've even looked at Alkmaar. Found something there but it's an hour's train ride.

Oh well, we'll see.

I believe the camp site you mean is Zeedam where they also have small cabins. Looked at it, but not really ready for a camp site yet ;-)

I found a place in Haarlem for 80€. Got the last room ;-)

Thanks again, guys!

Check out a hotel in Zandvoort called, "Hotel AaanZee" zandvoort.org - their rate is 39 euro with a min of 3 nights I think. In their e-mail they said they have private bathrooms in all rooms.

That was the cheapest I had found, and they don't even require a payment for the reservation until you arrive. I ended up securing an apartment before I get there so I ended up not needing the hotel or else that would have been my choice.
