10 hours in amsterdam

Post by lazerbeam »

Lucky enough to have just returned from a wicked birthday weekend in the dam.

Time was short as I was only in the city for the day, having come up from Brussels on Saturday with my lovely wife - an Amsterdam 1st timer and non-smoker.

We stayed at a hotel in Brussels but headed up to Amsterdam early on Saturday morning with the smart ,modern train flying through the Benelux countries passing through Rotterdam and Den Haag, we arrived at Central station around 10 a.m. :)

Went straight to Amnesia and picked up a gram of Laughing Buddha, after the bud tender - Beau (sp?) recommended it and a chocolate hash cake fresh from the fridge for wifey. I had looked at the LSD, but decided against it as it all looked a bit bottom-of-the-barrely. So I went for the Buddha. The taste was fine, nothing special, but had a nice giggly start to Saturday morning. Wifey had half the cake and reminded me we were on our way to Ann Frank's house. :( So I built another for the road and we left a very busy coffee shop behind us.

Did a quick detour though, to find that Grey Area was still not open (still never been in there!), and that the heaven's had decided to turn Amsterdam's streets into canals. Meanwhile, we found that the queue was too long at Miss Frank's house and that we were getting soaked at half ten in the morning with the whole day ahead of us. So we de-toured again, this time to Kadinskys. :)

A new shop to me and I thought it was a bit pokey. Compact and bijou.
Despite the friendly female bud-tender being very welcoming, the gram of Bubblegum I got in return for my euros looked miserly and didn't last long at all. I should have got something else, but was too focussed on making sure my better half was alright having ordered more hash cake! The Looza juice was good though and wifey tucked into another half-piece of cake, this time of the vanilla variety (which as it turns out, upon sampling it at home, is pretty potent stuff). Picked up a couple of lighters too. Spent too much euro in there really, bit of a disappointing score and pokey place but with a nice, friendly staff.

We decided to venture out into the rain, but not until after seeing a first-time smoker return his ready-rolled joint to the busy lady working in Kadinskys, informing her that he had had enough, and that it wasn't for him. Freak.

We trudged through a bustling Dam Square to see lots of scaffolding obscuring the views of the wonderful buildings, and to have some munchies - Wok to Go and a lovely, but pricey, cheese and broccoli pie. And a sausage roll. Munchies. Then we went to one of my favourite coffeeshops; Bluebird.

It was really busy in here but we found our way to the bar and ordered a drink whilst looking at the main menu. I had a quick scan at the weed menu but it was so busy that i felt in the way. For some silly reason I didn`t get round to ordering any samples by the time we were moved on by the sometimes grumpy dude that works there.

The guy who works there came up and hussled us away from the bar into a very full and stuffy smoking room. Now, I have been in the Bluebird before and really enjoyed some expensive, Nepali Creme hash in a chilled out atmosphere, but this Saturday it was too busy and the boss-guy was in a far from welcoming mood, so, after a brief period of musical chairs around the coffee shop due to Wifey`s restlessness, we left empty handed as my wife's space cakes really started kicking in and the rain continued pouring...

.... So we left the Bluebird with me feeling slightly miffed at the guy`s attitude and wifey floating off the cake from Kandinsky. The rain was still hammering it down, so we only had a short walk to the Old Church and the back of Stones bar. :)

I've spent some time here before, kind of `in a loop` between their coffeeshop, and their bar; smoking, drinking and getting more supplies. Wasn`t in there long on Saturday though, just had a small beer while wifey cooled off with a Sprite.

The beer didn`t sit well on my stomach. i find it is either one or the other; weed or beer, the two together are false friends in my opinion.

Beer wasn't tasting good , so I/we decided to go. Next stop was Stone`s coffeeshop - back in the loop again.

We walked in, and the big, comfy,sofa-thing they have in there was free, but there was a long queue at the counter, so we took a seat and waited patiently for the counter to clear.
I like this place. No one ever seems to mention buying weed from Stones on this forum, but I`m seldomly disappointed with the service or pruduct from Stones. Oh, and I`m not on commission! The NYC Diesel from here has been good and the Chocolope I was to get this time was mighty fine stuff. :)

Last time I came here, the NYC Diesel was so good that I went back for more, but this time it was all twiggy without many nice looking buds, so I opted for a gram of Chocolope.

This was the highlight smoke of the trip, beating the Laughing Buddha from Amnesia and the very small gram of Bubblegum from Kandinsky, that I had bought earlier. it had a nice sweet taste and mellow high. I`d like to try the strain in Grey Area, if I ever get there when it is open.

There was a bong on the table so I gave that a whirl, and the Chocolope was sweet and tasty, smooth with a pleasant high. Loaded the bong up again and then rolled a spliff, but struggled to roach it. We kicked back for well over an hour, sheltering from the rain, drinking tea and listening to the Bob Marley reggae, that they perennially have on in Stones. Happy days. 8)

So we spent a nice bit of time chilling in Stones as the heavens continued to pour just out the door. But it was getting late and we had to catch a train back down to Brussels and our 10 hour flying visit was coming to an end. :?

We eventually ventured out into the torrent of rain, heading for the 420.
Once I was in here, I was on a stop-over from flying long-haul from Asia and had about three hours in the Dam, got Cheese from 420 and then lost pretty much all feeling in my hands and feet. Oh it was good weed!

Didn`t get any this time though as I was already wrecked from smoking all day and instead got a sneaky bit of dark hash - maybe nepali or something like that, can`t recall now, stashed that and caught a train away from smokers paradise. It was all over so quickly. And we never did make it to Ann Frank`s house.

It wasn`t expensive - about 45 euro return. You can get direct tickets with Eurostar from St Pancras to any Dutch station. It`s a lot less hassle than going on a plane.

Pleasant indeed. First time to go with my better half and in the end it was my best trip. :)

It helps having someone to talk to there rather than just having an internal dialogue with myself, which mostly consists of pondering as to which coffeeshop to go to. :?
