Mellow Yellow Lounge

Post by Trainwreck »

ACD Page: Mellow Yellow Lounge

This isn't exactly a review, because the place isn't open yet, but I walked past this place about an hour ago on the way back to my hotel. It's about halfway down the Vijelstraat, near the Albert Heijn. It's seems strange that they've abandoned the yellow theme.

There were about half a dozen men inside working at refurbishing the place, (at half past 7 on a sunday night - !)

I leave on the 25th so I'll be keeping my eyes peeled to see if it's open before then.

I caught a few snaps with my iphone..

I went to MY lounge once, was just looking for a place to have a beer and a smoke at the end of a night.

Hated the place.

The interior is like a cheap nightclub in Bangkok (just total bad taste, too many bright colorful lights shining on the walls, silver leather and general nastiness). I'm not that critical of the decoration usually, but I just can't work out what they were thinking here. The front bar was totally empty except for an old couple.

Went up the bar to order a beer, the guy just stared coldly at me. No smile, no 'hello'. I felt weird asking "can I please have a beer?" like I was asking him a big favor. Then I asked him if its ok to smoke weed here. He pointed at the dark little enclosed room at the back. I thought it was a smoking bar, being that its Mellow Yellow, but its no weed allowed in the main bar.

So I took my beer into the smoking room. There was like 6 men in there who must have been friends of the owner. They were watching football, shouting loudly in Dutch and smoking a shitload of cigarettes. I started to roll something up, but then decided 'fuck this', as I felt totally unwelcome and uncomfortable.

Downed my beer and got the hell outta there.

Maybe the place will improve in time, who knows....

If you wanna drink with your smoke, go to the Nes.

Anyone else have any experience with this place?

Looks a bit tacky, but the food menu isn't too bad from what I've seen. Might be an ok place to go for a burger and a smoke.... if that's allowed of course...? :?

Anyone been recently?

Walked in here last week thinking it was the CS the woman behind the bar was extremely helpful and informed that it was the lounge and the CS was just two minutes away but we could come back and smoke. So we did just that worked out quite well as one of my friends got asked for Id and she'd forgot it. Nice lounge sat at the front people watching whilst the rain poured!

Great service here table service too. Food smelt ok never sampled too busy smoking - no bong though - a situation which we came about often.
