Yep, only answer to the problem...I heard there was a doctor from a poorer district of Liverpool who gave addicts as much pure diamorphine as they needed. The mugging/break ins (i.e nasty, society harming crimes) rate dropped about 95% overnight, for about two weeks until the doctor was stopped.
Having said, I honestly think that proper decriminalisation is not that far away for cannabis, and all drugs after that, more and more people are seeing sense despite all the bs propaganda that gets kicked around.
Here's hoping anyway

p.s Howard Marks seems to have disassociated himself with the LCA nowadays...good thing too, they're part of the problem with their crazy idea's and stupid views!

I've never actually seen the use of heroin on the park, but the underpass at the town end was the first place I ever saw used needles. Actually I walking through it kicking the dried leaves on the floor (it was October/November time) when I realised it wasnt just leaves!!!

Luckilly I was wearing a hardy pair of Timberland boots.
However, this was about 12 years ago and Amsterdam has changed a lot since then, for the better obviously. Although I do miss the trams with actuall bells and not a recording of them.

I've seen more needles in Norwich city centre than in Amsterdam, and Norwich is supposedly leading the way with heroin (needle deposits etc). Legalise the whole damn lot!

Best thing about parks and similar places is the people watching! So many people just passing by in their own worlds! Bushdocters is also a great place for people watching if you can get the window seat on the top floor!

Amsterdam has changed loads since I started going 14 years ago. I'm sure theres loads of smack heads still around but they're probably kept away from the city centre.

bigjohn wrote:Hi, Just back from an inpromptu 4 day visit to 'Dam. I woke up Monday morning feeling completely pissed off, looked on the internet as I do every morning, checking on emails and various sites. For some reason I came accross KLM site and thought, "fuck it, let's see how much it would cost to go to 'Dam today" 4 1/2 hours later I was buying 5g red hair in Central. Cancelled all work for the next 4 days and fucked off.
I booked a hotel at around 7pm from the agency on waormestraat just opposite Stones Cafe. 180 Euros for 3 nights inc. breakfast. The hotel was City Garden (previously PC Hotel) on P.C.Hoofstraat Right by the side entrance to Vondelpark. Nice hotel, predominatly Germans but as there were no sunbeds to put towels on this was'nt a problem.
The first 2 days went by in a blur, coffeeshop to coffeeshop all this weed and only 1 set of lungs
Day 3 was the best day of all, in fact the best day I have ever spent in 'Dam. I strolled into the Park and it was full of all sorts of people. I plonked myself down under a tree and within earshot of a group of Jamaican Reggae singers, fired up a fat one and proceeded to be as chilled as I've ever been in my life.

The sun was gorgeous, the music summed up what the whole vibe was like, reggae, every person in that park was smoking or shrooming or drinking or all 3. Watching the pretty girls cycling by whilst lay back looking at the sun through the branches of the tree, this perfect peace which was only broken by the girl cycling around every half hour or so shouting "beer, cola"

Then there were the amount of lovers in the park, hundreds of them, and I swear I even saw a man & woman together.

Then the woman dancing around the trees with her long flowing hair and dress, just like the old newsreel from Woodstock. Woodstock is alive and well and happening in parks all over 'Dam
I am back with the wife at the end of this month and weather permitting I expect to be spending a lot of time in the park, days like that are the reason god invented Cannabis.
If you never thought about visiting the parks, do it, you will not regret it, the sights and sounds are awesome.
John
Sounds like heaven mate!!

Every trip I've made to Amsterdam I've spent some time in Vondelpark. Partly because it was close to my hostel and partly because of the atmosphere of the park itself.
If you go in summer there are concerts and impromptu busking - there was this one guy just walking around with his guitar singing for everyone, he had a small following and I joined in.
There were no obvious junkies in the park, there were students and young mothers, joggers and cyclists (of course) and tourists smoking pot and enjoying the sunshine. Occasionally I saw some people on shrooms laughing and giggling which is cool with me.
I must add that I was completely stoned all the time I was in the park and was not hassled by anyone. It's also a great place for people watching and you don't have to fight to get a window seat!
Go to Vondelpark and light up a fattie and enjoy. P.S. someone mentioned Amsterdamse Bos which I would also like to see. They have camping there and a bus into the city centre. That sounds awesome but I always travel alone and I think that camping is more fun shared.

I just remembered something funny that happened to me in Vondelpark.
The park is oblong and it's possible to just walk around the edge and end up where you started. It was on this assumption I headed out into the park and smoked a couple under a tree by some water.
After a while I started feeling hungry so I thought I'd head back to the hostel, not directly but around the park - It's not that big and I'd eventually end up at the entrance I came in at. Since I wasn't in that much of a hurry, every now and then I'd stop in the grass or on a bench and smoke another one so I was getting pretty stoned as I walked around the park. And after another hour or so I was getting pretty hungry so I decided I'd just go straight back to the hostel.
But then I thought I'd been walking around the park for so long that it would probably be quicker if I just continued in the direction I was headed instead of turning around. I kept on for a while when I realised that I kept passing the same things all the time. It turned out that I wasn't making the full circle of the park but only about half and I'd been walking in stoned circles for the past hour.
Anyway now I'm really hungry and I'm getting tired and I'm staring to think I'm never going to find my way out of this maze of a park when I suddenly realize that the film museum which I've already past several times is right at the entrance of the park and I've walked past it loads of times without seeing it.
This realization - that I was so stoned I couldn't even recognize where I came into the park- made me laugh and I still think it's funny.

People watching in Vondel park, stoned, in the summer, is one of lifes greatest pleasures! Cycling through it, with your favourite tunes playing on the ipod, is great fun too.
I love the Vondel Park, so for my next Amsterdam visit (this Friday

) i've booked the Borgmann Villa hotel. It's on the entrance to the Park about 1/2 way down. Gets good reviews and is reasonably priced. Normally I've stayed in the Central area but some of the hotels there have been crap. Want to escape the madness this time. The BV is a little way out of town but It means I'll have to cycle through the park every day

Did you ask if the park was open yet? It has been completely closed for renovation. I think the opening date is sometime in mid April. For an alternative try the Amsterdam BOS, Rembrandt Park, or Safarti Park.
