Beat me to it. So many details need to be worked out before deciding what to grow. Let's work it out, shall we?

If your location is England as stated in your avatar, it's too late to start outdoors now. So indoors it is.
Closet, micro-grow, grow box? The size matters because it will more or less determine whether you grow Sativa or Indica, all things considered. Sativas generally need more overhead clearance because they tend to stretch naturally, and Indicas need more width because of the Christmas tree effect.
Limited resources, ie... cash? Electricity will be the highest consumer of an indoor growers resources, equipment notwithstanding. If so, lighting will probably need to be Flo's, in which case Indicas are more suited given that they require less time to mature than Sativas, ie... require less electricity.
If not a problem, then I recommend using a minimum 400W HID system, 600W even better, 1000W the best. The better the lighting, the better the outcome, all things considered.

Fist is last, what do you want to grow?

thanks guys 8) I am thinking....a scrog grow in a growtent using a 1 metre square screen, with about 2 plants in an aquafarm, a 400w son t agro (I still have 4 of these HIDs but am hoping to use just one), 125mm fan and carbon filter and I am hoping for a result of about 7-8 oz :)

Its possible to get a gram per watt, especially if you do some form of training (such as the Scrog). On my first I got about 0.8g per watt, but that was untrained, with way too many girls in the tent. Am now a few down the line and can get upto 1.2g per watt.

As usual though, depends upon strain/genetics, if grown from seed or clone, veg time, flower time (try not to pull it after 6 weeks), what medium is grown in any training methods used and also to the degreee of which you dry your finished erb.

Proberly missed somethings, but blame the fact I havent had a coffee yet. Damn milk gone funny, I aint getting wet just to have a coffee (is raining)

Ditch the Aquafarms and get a couple of oxy pots, you will get a better yeild with less cost. I Promise

Won't comment on your choice of medium because I have limited, read none, experience with hydro. The SCROG can be a space saver, especially when the plant(s) are trained properly. Good choice of lighting, one bulb for the entire process. I read positive reviews on the Phillips Son-T-Agro bulbs.

You have four HID systems, ballast and all? Thinking about growing for fun and profit?

IMO, one square meter is the approximate limit that a 400W lamp can effectively be used to gain maximum results. In one of my earliest attempts at growing, a couple of plants were outside this 'area' and the yield was considerably less than those within the square, so to speak. Not that this is any great revelation, it's a given for indoor grows that the farther away the plant is from the light, the lower the yield, all things considered (stretching, burning, etc..).

I would recommend placing a small fan under the canopy. This would aid in the circulation of fresh air which in turn would help with controlling temperature and humidity, maybe even pests. A real bitch to build a nest when the wind is blowing.

As for your estimate, this may be (is) somewhat conservative. Not that you would need all the stars to properly align, but given the proper circumstances, you could obtain a cured weight nearing 500 grams. :O Maintain control over your grow area (temp, humidity, pests, etc...), and properly feed and train the plants, I don't see why you shouldn't, all things considered (genetics, etc..). Do you? :)

Enjoy your grow. Gardening is good for the soul.

I used to grow hydro and found it easyer to manage in my busy life (I work 50-60hrs a week as a HGV driver). I have never tried scrog before so that will be new to me :D I have used son-t-agro bulbs before with good results (BUT one of my ballasts had problems in sparking the bulb up so I replaced with a son-t-plus).

I used to grow alot when I was a grower (and made lots of wonga) I did it for about 10 years.......BUT I did get a massive reputation the reason I stopped, at the start it was a need to know type thing but then somebody who had been buying my stuff for years from my dealer found out it was from me and started buying direct off me (I did not want this at all but felt I could not say no as he now knew my secret) this guy knew me for years so expected mates rates  Anyway things got out and suddenly everybody knew so I gave up and sold most of my hardware on ebay I only kept the lights cos I thought they would be too heavy to post.

This new grow is for just me and her so I think 400w and a 1metre square tent should do it.

You are prolly right but I dont like to expect too much just incase.

Thanks DUR I will try  I just have to wait untill we have had some work done (full rewire  )on our house before I start

I looked at these, I know people who use them say great things but I don't like the look of them. I have used aquafarms before (well I say aquafarms but I just nicked the design and built my own cheaper version)

so the oxypots yeild more? your tempting me now
