Kerkstraat is a good location, it's a very long street so it depends on exactly where your apartment is, but it crosses leidsestraat, vijelstraat and utrechtstraat... all streets from where you can get trams to dam square and central station.
The dolphins coffeeshop is on kerkstraat, just off the leidsestraat and it's a great vibe.
Basically it depends exactly where you are on Kerkstraat, but wherever it is be rest assured it's a good central location, not more than 5 mins from a tramline or coffeeshop.

You can get trams from Utrechtstraat to Rembrandtplein, dam square and central station, although when I was there recently these trams weren't running due to line maintenance. You might have to walk a little further to Vijelstraat for trams, but it's really not that far.dajaxman wrote:its on 391 Kerkstraat

As for coffeeshops, stix is just towards the top of Utrectstraat round the corner from rembrandtsplein, Barney's lounge is on Reguliersgracht - both about 10 mins walk.
