Heading to Amsterdam for 2 weeks in early October and looking for some suggestions for some good guide books. Thanks
Thanks, any other suggestions?
Also wheres the best place to get a good map, I will use the ACD map of course but am very prone to getting lost..
I am the type that also likes to plan everything I can and plan to mostly hit up the coffeshops with maybe a museum or 2 and also the different flea markets.

Personally I use a Moleskine City Notebook which is a pocket-sized notebook containing a detailed map. They are available for many cities. This gives a relatively high scale map over several pages and includes a handy street name index. Also includes sticky tracing paper so you can write on the maps without permanently marking them. Only criticism is the lack of a tram map. These however are available from the transport ticket office in Centraal Station.
One of the best free maps I have found is a brochure/leaflet called City Spy. It can be picked up around town but can also be printed at their website. I've not printed it but I found the free leaflet to be a good little pocket map with tram lines marked and some tourist tip style advertising on the reverse.
