Hi guys and gals new here today so thought id ask a few questions

My wife and I are going on Mon 20th Sep and we cant wait! Its been booked for 2 month now and the time really is going slow!

We want to experience all that is on offer, but saying that we have never tried weed or hash or whatever before....

I however, wont be smoking and up until finding this site was hell bent on finding the best space cake to make my trip more fun, but then I've been reading about VAPOR!?!?!??!!? How interesting! this got my attention straight away!

Can anyone explain to me how this works? I understand the meaning of vapor but what does it entail? Is it just pretty much enhailing "weed gas"? What tools are used and is it the same as smoking?

Since its our first time id rather do small steady hits of vapor to see how I go and then maybe get some cakes for the boat on the way home for the night time.

Can anyone offer any further advice on this? Such as how you handled your first time? Decent places to go for beginners, with the vaporizors available and nice staff who could maybe suggest what to try and what to avoid? We are doing one of those DFDS mini cruises so directions/ETA by walking from the bus stop you get dropped off at would also help as we are only there for 5/6 hours.

We plan to go straight to a CS when arriving for a nice mellow site seeing tour for the rest of the day.

Sorry if my questions sound daft but this is totally new to me and a lot of hype has been put in to this trip lol, I dont want to ruin it by going over the top, yet I dont want to ruin it by not having enough.

If we enjoy it this time round we are looking at going back every 6/9 month so will become more experienced with time.

Doing any sort of drugs at home doesnt interest me at all (I have small children) and if anything this will be a release from everyday life, which I am very looking forward too.

All advice is appreciated.

You're in the right place to get started then, there's lots of good info here. I've copied and pasted and revised the following from another post this past week:

I am certainly no expert, just another visitor, but there are a few things I learned that allowed me to enjoy later visits more.

- first off - research - google maps is great for finding places. i just center it on amsterdam, search for "gallery" for example, find some places, read reviews, look at links, and if want to go there, I click the star and/or add it to a "My Map".

- i lucked out my first stay, and was outside of the center, and visited some smaller, quaint coffeshops for my first few times (except for rookies, that was a different beast), and they were not so touristy. You can find some real idiots at some coffeeshops that ruin the good vibes

- if the sign says "coffeeshop", then there is cannabis

- if you want cannabis, but don't see a menu, then ask for one. some places keep the menu hidden. they will gladly show you the menu

- don't buy too much to start. cannabis is plentiful, and there will be opportunities to try other kinds at other CS. I was in line behind a guy ordering everything on the menu, raving how you can't do that in the US, and the budtender told him to relax.

- if you already have something to smoke when you go into a coffeeshop, still buy something to eat or drink, to maximize good vibes and good karma with the budtender

- budtenders are usually friendly and helpful

- depending on what you're used to smoking, and the environment you're used to smoking in, take it easy during your first smoke in a coffeeshop. be well-fed before smoking, order something to drink with your smoke, and relax.

- customs - just be polite, don't be a stereotype. learn a couple basic dutch phrases out of courtesy (hello, thank you, etc), and then English is fine. it is very safe in amsterdam, so no worries

Also, regarding "drugs", many people don't consider cannabis a drug, which is a very loaded word in this context. Just as many people don't consider tobacco or coffee drugs...

Cheers for the info Tron, gunna take a look at that link right now.

As mentioned above I dont want to smoke (I used to smoke about a year ago and gave up so dont want to get into the habbit again) but my wife will be.

I'll check that link out and come back with my thoughts or any more questions I have.

hmmm been reading up some interesting info, think the CS I want to visit first would be Basjoe, it sounds nice friendly and clean.

Anyone got any other recommendations or more info on Basjoe? As said earlier I'll be vaporizing not smoking

Unfortunatly since this is my first visit its just a cheap 2 night 1 day cruise to get a "feel" for the place, then if we enjoy it we are looking at booking another trip with a few days stay.

So this time im only in for about 6 hours max on the 21/09.

Again the only things I know about the whole experience is what I have read up on so I dont know how its going to affect me but im just gunna take it slow and see what happens.

Basejoe's seems to be no1 on my list but still need to find out more info on them, like if they do vaporizors and if the staff can "hook me up" with what the hell im doing hahaha

I'll be hitting Basejoes for about 11/12ish on the 21/09 (Depends when it opens) If any seasoned vets are in town and dont mind showing a noob how to handle a vaporizer or just for a chat in general your more than welcome too

Theres going to be 4 of us now (myself, my wife, sister and her husband) all of us have little to no experience at all lol

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Basjoe does not have a vaporizer. IMO the best place to try one is Barney's on Haarleemerstraat. They have one on every table and will have someone to help you out. Their gear can be overpriced so maybe stop at Basjoe or Greenplace, my favorites, before you head over.

Anyday has great weed and vaporizers. Barneys is an overpriced tourist trap, imho.

If you are a weed newbie, eating space cakes may blow your mind so be careful.

lol cheers for the advice Marco, thats why I am very interested in vaping, at least then i can judge the dosage and take it easy.

Ive been reading up again and I think the top ones to visit my be 420 cafe and hill street blues (which was the first one i liked the sound of when i was looking for cakes)

We are planning to get off the bus (which I have been told stops right near Macdonalds...... Get a quick breakfast in and then go straight to a CS. We plan on staying in CS for an hour or so then walking through the RLD and going to the musems, van go, sex and ann franks house then on our way back maybe try a different CS.

We have to fit this all in 5/6 hours

That's why you take your own gear, I usually stop at Dampkring 2 on the way.

That is a lot to try and fit in with such a short amount of time. The queue for the Anne Frankhuis can be an hours wait. Try and get your tickets online beforehand. Hill Street Blues has the Hill St. Special for 8E I think, top smoke and they have a volcano on the bud counter.

yeah we are going to do ann franks last as its not a must do for us, its basically something to pass the time if we have any left

Hill street blues seems like a nice place, well situated too.

Do the staff prepare the vaporiser for you, or do you do it yourself?

3 of us will be smoking and with that probs buying pre made Js. I'll be the only one using the vaporiser so i wont need much (maybe half a gram from what ive read will get me 2 bags) which should be enough for me and maybe for my wife to try

Just tell them it's your first time and they will help with the vaporizer. You can get closer to 5 bags out of about a half.
