Must be about time I chipped in here.

Firstly, the Nemesis and Amsterdamsat maps are great but not entirely accurate.

Secondly, I believe my Centrum map is very accurate although it covers a smaller area than Nemesis’ one:

https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/MapCentrum.html

Some time ago, the people behind Amsterdamsat sent me a huge jpeg of an area roughly equivalent to that covered by the main ACD map (i.e. within the Singelgracht). My plan was to plot all of the shops on this picture but I haven’t had time to make much progress with it yet. There are various copyright restrictions on what can be done with the Amsterdamsat image and I’m a bit protective about my maps because they took a long time to draw. My maps are original and not based on existing ones so are my copyright.

I like the idea of making use of GoogleEarth. My time is limited but I’d like to help with this project if possible. At the same time, I’d also like to discourage any blatant plagiarising of other people’s work, especially mine!

Actually, I was hoping you'd host (or at least link to) the completed project somewhere within the directory, as a supplement to your maps (which is what I wanted to start this project for anyway. :) ). Providing you'd allow it, the map would be labelled as the Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory Map, as your website provided not only the inspiration but the information to make. :D

I just wish we had some geocoding data for Amsterdam, that would save so much trouble, just batch process the whole list, and Presto! In seconds you've got a complete map.

Sounds good. When I get a spare moment I'll pass on some material.

That map is just google earth with coffee shop POI's.

There are some links for coffee shop POI's for google earth. I try and dig them out later.

I originally tried to reference that map, but I found it to be very incomplete, as well as quite innaccurate, some coffeeshops placed blocks away from where they should be. I found it easier to just manualy plot every one.

And as a footnote, due to a PSU malfunction, I lost all my work on this project (after about 150+ plotted coffeeshops), so I kind of lost interest for a long time, but with the the ACD forums back online, I might start anew. Im just glad my csv tables are still intact (they were hosted online), those took a long time to do.

Boot-up your googleEarth and turn on the Google Community layer. There are three or four posts to bbs.keyhole.com that end up with pretty comprehensive coverage. One collection even links to photos and ACD info.

Be sure to right click and "Save to My Places" so you have access if you're offline.

Enjoy,
chuckje.

Pala's right. If you're looking for a good casual map of coffeeshops, just follow his instructions. I've put my project on hold for a while, and I'm not sure when I may start up again, as I keep hitting many setbacks. We'll see how things go from here. =D

Just need time. =P It's all manual work, comparing satellite photos to plat maps provided by Amsterdam city officials, making sure every single placemark is on the exact right building and geographic coordinates. Geocoding a list of addresses can only get you so far, virtually every plotted point will be off by anywhere from one building to 3 km. It's really just all about taking the time to plot some 200+ points. I can average about 2 per minute if I'm really concentrated, but I keep getting set back by one thing or another (lost my original work which was half done to a hard drive malfunction).

But I may soon be inspired to start work on it again. =D

Is there an English-speaking section on this Web site?
