This was another one that snuck up on me. When it decided to finally happen, about 15 minutes after I had lit up, the Silver Pearl rode in on a wave of anxiety. A heady high took over. The stuff caused my head to race.
Barentsz' Silver Pearl is the strongest weed I've tried in Amsterdam by a very large margin. It was not stupefying, though. The effect was clear; it was clear and very edgy. I am not a big movie buff, nor a fan of this film in particular, but the SP put me in the vibe of Memento. Everything I saw around me – the countryside on the edge of Amstelveen, the passing cars and the bike path – was obvious and ordinary, but the experience as a whole was jarring. I couldn't get a grip on the big picture.
I took the 51 Metro back into town. Naturally, when I got off the train at Zuid, the slide-stiles wouldn't let me out. (I haven't mastered the GVB multi-day pass quite yet.) So there I was, having already experienced several bouts of anxiety on the way in, pushing a button and speaking English into an intercom, asking some disembodied transit worker to let me out. The awkward shit has to happen when you're in the worst condition to handle it.
Silver Pearl was the least friendly weed of the trip, but certainly also the most memorable. Sharp, racy and edgy, it was an experience. I would like to think it would be quite interesting – paired with a bottle of Cabernet. Without the alcohol, however, the multiple orgasms of anxiety proved a bit much for Yours Truly.
