strain: Silver Pearl
cs: Barentsz
€: 7.50/gr
odor: sweet, composting hay

This was another one that snuck up on me. When it decided to finally happen, about 15 minutes after I had lit up, the Silver Pearl rode in on a wave of anxiety. A heady high took over. The stuff caused my head to race.

Barentsz' Silver Pearl is the strongest weed I've tried in Amsterdam by a very large margin. It was not stupefying, though. The effect was clear; it was clear and very edgy. I am not a big movie buff, nor a fan of this film in particular, but the SP put me in the vibe of Memento. Everything I saw around me – the countryside on the edge of Amstelveen, the passing cars and the bike path – was obvious and ordinary, but the experience as a whole was jarring. I couldn't get a grip on the big picture.

I took the 51 Metro back into town. Naturally, when I got off the train at Zuid, the slide-stiles wouldn't let me out. (I haven't mastered the GVB multi-day pass quite yet.) So there I was, having already experienced several bouts of anxiety on the way in, pushing a button and speaking English into an intercom, asking some disembodied transit worker to let me out. The awkward shit has to happen when you're in the worst condition to handle it.

Silver Pearl was the least friendly weed of the trip, but certainly also the most memorable. Sharp, racy and edgy, it was an experience. I would like to think it would be quite interesting – paired with a bottle of Cabernet. Without the alcohol, however, the multiple orgasms of anxiety proved a bit much for Yours Truly.

Hi Quiky

There are no comments about Barentsz on the main site (https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/Barentsz.html). I'd really appreciate it if you could email me a review.

Thanks

Lemming: I've e-mailed you a review. Post another message on the thread if the e-mail failed to make it your way.

Barentsz (Barentszstraat 130) is located several blocks away from the last stop of the 3 tram. I enjoyed speaking with the 'tender. She gave me a long lecture on why tipping budtenders is unnecessary :)

Gapie: Your comprehensive coffeeshop review of Barentsz is a welcome contribution to the boards. It's always a treat to read about a new destination in detail.

I will feel slightly embarrassed next time I see Ayse, however :)

strain: Afghaan Haze
cs: Loft
€: 10.80/gr
odor: straw, very faintly.

I'm feeling different, but not sure how. I keep getting distracted from finding the pen in my bag, so I'm thinking I might be a wee bit high. Now that I've located it, I notice that I have to *try* to focus to take notes.

The back of my neck feels hummy and warm. Really hummy and really warm. I look out the window onto the balcony, and I know that I am high.

Or am I stoned? I want to eat, I want to put on the headphones, I want to throw on the sweats and get comfy – all at once. Afghaan Haze's stone – yes, stone – boxes the mind in a bit and asks me to stimulate the senses.

Afghaan Haze is stoner weed, yet there's more to it than just a classic pot thud. You see, it's got this alert elf lurking in the background. The stone smothers out the raciness before it can take off, but the elf still manages to elevate the mood … Luckily I remembered to pack the air guitar (and thankfully the floors in Grand Hotel Amstelveen are solid) because it is time to ROCK OUT. [Insert Quiky's mp3 dance party here.]

Loft's Afghaan haze would be more aptly named Haze Afghaan. It's a stimulus-needy indica that is perked up by a dose of sativa. Although we're all familiar with the stone, the haze makes it all worth doing again. With its happy hand pushing firmly on the cerebral cortex, it propels you through the murk. It keeps you creative and it keeps you moving.

The Afghaan Haze rivaled HGF's Purple Power as the smoke of the trip. Gad, I'd imagine fans of Club Media's Hindu Kush would rave about this stuff.

I would like to add that I made a minor discovery while standing on line to get the Afghaan Haze. I noticed that a person a head of me purchased a half gram of hash. Following her example, I bought a half gram of weed. If you're a welterweight like me, or are interested in getting just a sample, it's good to know some shops (particularly those farther from the center) will sell you a half gram even when the menu gives prices by the gram. Later in my trip I also made half-gram purchases at Chapiteau and Boerejongens.
