Perhaps you have once dated someone who was rather plain looking. By no means was she (or he) heinous, but this person was lacking in beauty. And perhaps you decided, several coffees and several dinners later, that she was dull as well. Yet somehow circumstances unfolded as they sometimes do, and one night you ended up going over to her apartment. And it was then a grand realization came home, moments after getting into bed with her for the first time: You were in the arms of a fun-loving, sexual juggernaut. Who knew?
Of course, this scenario has never actually happened to Yours Truly. It was the analogy that came to mind once the Purple Power took hold, though, sometime after picking a bunch of those raisin-budlets off of the stem and stuffing them into the bowl. I was thinking, 'Why did I buy more of this twiggy outdoor shit?' ... until I lit up. That's when I started looking for a big analogy to relate the experience.
Purple Power was no creeper. It came on fast, and it came on like an indica. I was aware of a warm humming in the back of my neck and then in my arms. I wasn’t entirely stupefied, but I knew the weed was snugging up a clamp on my head.
And then I felt like smiling. I was expecting so much less, but all of a sudden it was: Here we go! A few minutes after the initial stone, a heady ‘whoo-hoo’ had jumped through the door, and it was looking to cause some mischief. I was inside of my head, yet I still wanted to explore town. PP wants you to have fun. It wants to party.
I was high, I was stoned. Purple Power had this terrific balance, without a couchy letdown. Perhaps the best weed of the trip – for €5 a gram. Who knew?
Have been to Homegrown Fantasy but not Homegrown Fantaseeds, where is it so we can look it up at the weekend, thanks

strain: Santa Maria
cs: Kashmir
€: 7.50/gr
odor: damp, rotting hay
My, this stuff is all orange hairs. Hairy and quite dry. The smoke has a fine, dry powderiness to it.
Now, mind you, I am smoking Santa Maria on top of some other strains … It cuts through the fog with a caffeinated punch. Speedy! Bright! It's like the Paars I tried at the beginning of the trip, only a bit stronger.
I've gotten on the 51 metro and I am headed back into the city. The buzz has become a manageable, repetitive edginess that prods the mind. There is no euphoria to speak of.
Santa Maria has a wakeful high that doesn't really add to the waking experience. An unmemorable smoke.

strain: Twisla (hash)
cs: De Bommel
€: 8/gr
odor: cocoa and straw
The smoke tastes of earth. A gentle breeze envelopes me. (What is this, a commercial for a fabric softener?) Nothing racy about this stuff. Your worries are … what worries?
Uncomplicated, uncluttered warmth. (It isn't stopping me from taking budshots.) Through all that warmth and the all-is-good Vicodin blanket, Twisla produces a very sober buzz. It's relief from a long week, an escape from the nuisances of everyday life.
Twisla is just that, a mild respite from the world.

Located about halfway between Boerejonens and Loft, De Bommel (Balboastraat 19) is an easygoing local establishment. Its motif is the bear, and that's nice. Once you're buzzed in the door you're welcomed by all sorts of likenesses of ... bears.
The menu is limited. If memory serves, De Bommen offers White Widow, White Pearl, Amnesia (light), Amnesia (strong), a salad mix and Twisla hash. I felt self-conscious walking into this local joint, but the 'tender quickly put those negative thoughts to rest. He spoke English, and he was ready to make this foreigner feel like just another person. He offered advice on how I should smoke the hash (by mixing it with something else so that the hash isn't lit directly).
Being timid as I am, I've yet to light up within the confines of a coffeeshop. That being said, De Bommen would be high on my list of places to break that odious streak. It's like a little, local bar inside, the kind that's welcoming.

strain: Sour Diesel
cs: Chapiteau
€: 9/gr
odor: pine sap with a floral bubblegum
When you tear this one up, a powder rubs off onto your fingers.
The high is cool and dissociative. Here I am, sitting at one corner of Westerpark, watching life pass by. I feel like I am looking through a telescope held backwards.
My head's clear, though I can feel the velvet vice being applied. The cool, blue sadness which comes with this buzz reminds me of 420's NYCD. Chapiteau's Sour Diesel is a strain that pushes one's thoughts inwards, yet it's strangely good company for a walk. It lends itself to reflecting on life, not necessarily in a negative way.
I'd guess this Sour Diesel is stronger than the NYCD. It surprised me with a surge about 45 minutes after lighting up. From there, however, it wound down to a calm and kind high. It seemed to get better an hour or so into the experience.
The Diesels aren't flashy; they are subtle and elegant. Chapiteau's SD says 'Diesel.' It's got that refined euphoria, that classy nostalgic vibe. If you've never tried a Diesel, try one next time you're in town, OK? You've got no excuse not to. Chapiteau and 420 both offer nice examples of the stuff.

Strain: Durban Poison
cs: Anyday
€: 5.80/gr
odor: rye bread, faintly
The ‘tender warned me I was getting the dregs. There was so little left, in fact, that he was willing to forgo house policy and sell me just a half gram.
Durban Poison came on with a clear, quiet warmth. It sucked the sound out of the hotel room. I felt at peace, a nice place to be after rushing back to the hotel on the metro. DP delivered a sense of well-being. It was mellow, but it didn’t knock the energy out of me. I headed out into the dusk for a walk on the edge of Amstelveen.
As I was walking along the path I thought, “This is the weed for golden moments.” Easy-going and mildly mood-enhancing, it was how I imagine sativas may have been in the ‘70s, before they were put on steroids. Perhaps the effect of DP is the closest I’ve been to getting *high*, in the original sense of the word.
I would like to have access to this stuff at home. I would take it with me on hikes.

strain: Planken
cs: Kashmir
€: 8/gr
odor: sweet, green and grassy, not so far off from damp hay
On my first visit to Kashmir, the ‘tender managed to foist the Santa Maria on me. Almost as soon as I made the purchase, I was feeling buyer’s remorse. I was getting ready to leave when a local stopped in and asked for Planken. As his weed was being weighed, the guy commented to the ‘tender (in English – for my benefit?) that the ‘Planken is always good.’ I vowed to come back and see what I was missing out on.
The Planken sample I got the next day was the prettiest bud of the trip. It was a broad arrowhead of pot. Like the Santa Maria, the Planken featured prominent hairs. (Kashmir’s grower must have a thing for hair.) When I tore it apart, I discovered the interior surfaces were a frosty white. Planken had bag appeal.
… this stuff is kicking in none too quickly, and I’m worried what I’m in for. It’s been 20 minutes now. What up? […] Here we go … Planken is another one that comes on with a speedy (but not prompt) rush. I’ve been putting off packing, but now I’m ready to get to work! It’s a transparent, energetic, super-functional high. It is not the least bit racy.
I had just about written this stuff off when I realized its calling: motivation. It’s the motivating aspect that distinguishes Planken from your unremarkable ‘up’ high. Weighed on its strength – as a worry-erasing energy source – Planken is … perfect. It’s a one-trick pony that does cartwheels.
I’ve read about Apollo 11’s ‘Genius’ pheno and its motivational, functional high. Planken is the closest I’ve come to that Holy Grail. Now I wish I had had more time to explore the city and fully probe the effects of this wiet. Uncomplicated stuff, but nifty nonetheless!

Hey, I got to your thread kind of late, but am loving your gear reviews. And the photos. Especially the non-bud-shots. But the bud porn is beautiful, too.
When you said
So why is it unnecessary? Do they actually make a shitload of money? I can easily see how a coffeeshop owner would be rolling in cash, but the employees?
When you said
I got to wondering. I read somewhere that they do appreciate it and I've done it several times when the bud tender did a great job."She gave me a long lecture on why tipping budtenders is unnecessary"
