Flying from here the only valid travel documents are EU id card and passport. Isn't that the way pretty much everywhere in EU.

70£ for passport, you gotta be kidding that's a total rip off... Guess they don't want you out of the country or something :)

But in thinking, cant find the link but pretty sure there IS (or certainly was) something to say that Easyjet (on there own site) at least DO accept the EU id card as valid id to travel to most european countries. If the airline accept the id card and the EU says it's valid for EU country travel then you gotta wander why the British government dont really mention it as a form of travel id?.

Possably down to being less than half the cost of a British passport me feels?.

By the way how long are the EU id cards valid for?.

atemate, when I got my passport a little over 9 years ago it was only £33 or so back then. They claim the current cost is down to extra checks needed. But to my knowledge the checks they do per application today is pretty much the same as it was 10 years ago.

Can an airline decide they only accept certain travel documents? If the EU says that both passport and id card are official travel documents when inside europe, then it would just make no sense not to accept the id card.

At those prices I would definetly go for the id card, if not planning to exit europe any time soon. Here the cost is the same for both documents, 45€ each, so no point to get the id card...

I asked the same question last month, there is a good link in it that should answer your question.
