Number of Male Centenarians Grows Markedly

The number of people who reach the age of a hundred has risen quite considerably for the first time in years. The number grew from 210 to 246 this year.

The growth since the 80's was mostly down to women. Currently the ratio is one in seven centenarians are male. The Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek expect there to be almost 14,000 people over 100 years old in 2050, of which a third are expected to be male. Even though the Dutch population is getting older, centenarians will only account for 1 in 1250 people in 2050.
