Lighters

Post by 711 »

Sure, we love to talk about our bongs, blunts, papers and pipes, but what about our lighters?

Personally, when it comes to lighting joints, I think nothing beats a zippo. For the rare cigar, I find matches do seem to help the flavor. For anything with a bowl (a pipe/bong/shisha), I like a butane lighter (it's so hard to make a zippo's flame go down into the bowl, and matches burn too fast when you hold them upside down).

What do you like?

On the subject of lighters... does anybody know anything about Zippo lighters? I've got a few that weren't used for a while, and now refuse to spark. The wheel spins freely, and the flint is unobstructed, but they simply won't spark. I can't find any Zippo discussion boards, or any good place to ask, so I figured why not a smoker's forum? =P

So anyone know what could be the problem? I'd hate to waste shipping sending it back to Zippo, if anyone here might be able to help me.

ohhh man Zippos are nasty!!!

i use nothing but a BIC (i bought a 100-pack at costco (wholesaler) about a year ago, still have 80+ left).

went on a match kick for awhile but that got to be a hassle and not worth the "no butane" crap.

You need a clipper or a swan..... they have the flint stork and wheel seperate, ideal for packing the end of your joint and making roach adjustments!

As for the Zippo, have you tried chaging the flint or tightening the screw on the bottom of the flint spring?

On my first 6 months here I worked out I'd bought about 70 lighters, after realising Amsterdam is full of lighter thieves....I don't buy any!.

Archy is right though, the 'Clipper' is the true smoking persons lighter due of the inbuilt 'pokey' :D

The Clipper is the King of lighters and could only have been invented by a stoner :?:

The only downside is the lack of the flame adjuster... Being a pipe smoker, depending on the depth of the pipe, sometimes you need to increase the flame size

I do like a gadget or two and recently bought a day-glow yellow (for easy finding through chinese-eyes) lighter... It is an electric start jobby with flame adjuster, clear side panel for fuel tank viewing AND secrectly built into it's base is an LED torch... another stoner device geniusly invented for picking up dropped gear when wasted and in a dark room. 8)

I've never heard of clipper lighters (I guess it's a europe thing?), but I looked em up, and can only find them at UK shops, who don't ship overseas. =O

I never use matches, and I'm too accident prone to use a zippo that stays lit all the time, so I stick to disposable lighters or the clipper/swan variety.

I like the disposable lighters because you can get a good sized flame whereas the clipper/swan lighters are more refined.

Yeah what you said. Have 20 year old zippo that works just fine. When going to Amsterdam I purchase a disposable for bongs etc.

I am assuming that "Clippers" are so called because, as explained earlier, the flint stork and wheel are a separate part of the lighter that can be removed and "clipped" back into place.

Seems like the most logical explanation but it's probably something completely different.
