Ruderalis strains....?

so, ive been reading and studying about growing, and looking at options etc etc and i notice the word 'ruderalis', which is something ive always heard about, but ive never actually learnt about it.

from what i think i know ruderalis is of russian/ish origin, and is a hardy grower in crap conditions outdoors, but is rubbish at producing smokable product.

so a couple of rambling questions:

1) are there any smokeable ruderalis strains in the dam, or any reuderalis dominant strains available in general?

2) if the above question is actually true, what are ruderalis typical charachteristics when smoked?

3) i was told that ruderalis is used in breeding to create auto flowering and short plant seeds. is this true? as i had the belief that ruderalis is a very tall growing species?

4) anyone had any experiences with this species (or genus, i dunno, biology phrases are not my strong point) and wish to share?

cheers.

Most autoflowering plants have some ruderalis in them, I believe it's the genetic trait that triggers the auto-flowering.

The only place I can think of thats sold an af is HGF who have sold Lowryder.

For what it's worth, ie not much, ruderalis are straggley little buggers compared to the other two so another benefit of cross breeding is reduced size and conspicuousness.

Course what we all need is a bonsai cross that can sit on the desk at work...

Ruderalis are big tall wild things and have been in the sensi catalogue for years, way before any other AFs graced the planet.

RUDERALIS SKUNK height 2-3m

RUDERALIS INDICA height 1.5m-2m

Seem pretty big to me 8)

I think Sensi's Ruderalis are hybrids. I bought some of their Durbans thinking I was getting the land race, turns out they crossed Durban Poison with another strain without telling anyone in their breeder's description. The plants I grew out looked absolutely nothing like the Durban Poison clone I got through a friend in 2003.

A friend of mine once grew the classic Lowryder under high pressure lamps. We all thought, that a ruderalis cannot do any harm to us, but we were quite suprised!
It was not that strong but the ruderalis-indica genetics can slam you right into your seat... definitely a strong stoner!

A note for all home growers: The Cronics that grew right beside the Lowryders began to bloom right after the Lowryder although the light was not changed to flowering... the plants must have had "communicated"! They had to be harvested 2 weeks before "their time".

So beware of growing autoflowering strains together with normal ones.
