1 Jan 2007 - what changes?

Greetings all:

Who knows which shops currently selling both cannabis and alcohol will be changing to a coffeeshop with no alcohol, and vice versa?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

TIA and best regards

I think if any coffeeshop is stupid enough to give up there licence to sell weed over alcohol doesn't deserve it in the first place. From what i have read it is near impossible to get a licence now. I think alot more bars will become smoker friendly due to this law change.

The way I interpret the law, the following are true:

-New licences are not issued
-Old licences may not be transferred to another entity
-Current licencees may not change location (shop location)
-To become a coffeeshop owner, one must purchase a current coffeeshop in it's entirety
-Any coffeeshop closed for violations loses it's licence indefinately
-Stock regulations are in place solely for to reason to raid and subsequently close coffeeshops in violation.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I hate being wrong more than I hate being corrected. =P

I read of some places (a place?) attempting to buy adjacent property in order to have the cannabis operation next to the bar, in lieu of being able to do both from the same location. These are the establishments I am talking about.

I'm pretty sure that most of the places that sell both will find a way of continuing to do so.

711, Your pretty much got it right from what I've read apart from 1 or 2 points.

1: I read that a new coffeeshop licence has been issued for a new coffeeshop over towards the west of the city, I have no name sorry.

2: The Dolphins wasn't able to sell weed for ages due to having too much stock, they chose weed over beer in the end (I'm pretty sure that the coffeeshop is owned by someone different as well now)

Talking of coffeeshops aquiring new licences Abraxas has brought Chocolata and are doing it up ready to be re-opened soon. (which to me is a fucking shame as the choco-mist was a quality weed)

I've heard recently there are some licenses that can be bought, though it has to stay at the same location.

It isn't from Jan either, every coffeeshop/bar has an existing time left on the current license....when it runs out, they have to split. For us this will be around spring time 2007. Ideally then, if you can get a premises next door or close by it'll just be a hassle moving from 1 to the other. Though in sayin that you'll get 2 experiences then instead of just 1....but yeah, it'll suck. We wont be gettin next door because apparently the council want it to become offices instead of horeca use.

Haven't heard of any, the profit margin on weed is higher than on alcohol because the weed was all privately grown and is effectively blackmarket. So to choose the bar over the coffeeshop would be madness. Plus I'm sure coffeeshops with Hotels and bars on separate floors attached to them will be trying to find any loopholes that'll enable them to do both, but then that's mainly the likes of the Bulldog and Grasshopper .....so who really cares anyway.

Agree one hundred percent. There is nothing like having someone on the inside with the facts.

For me, in the big picture, I don't care personally if I can't buy at the bar.

Just as long as I can smoke at the bar....... :D

personally i go to amsterdam for the weed, i can have drink alchohol at home easily, may aswell do the weed in dam! im ok with drinkin and smokin but thats smokin at home when its normaly soap bar so no real comparison....wouldnt wanna risk drinkin and smokin weed incase i felt ill!

so aslong as none of my fave coffee shops dont go to just alchohol (unlikely) then this change shouldnt affect me

Will actually be a good thing when the two types of sale have to be separated.

I got seriously fucked up drinking and smoking at the same time to such an extent that making it back to the hotel without seriously passing out was a major achievement.

Greenhouse Centrum and Nes-Cafe were the main culprits.

I suppose you'll still have the smoker friendly bars around town but I prefer to treat bars in Amsterdam as I would at home (cigarettes only).

So what about us that can and do smoke and drink? I only smoke pure joints but I love a beer with a J and to say its a good thing is actually quite selfish considering no-ones making you drink with your smoke or vice versa. (You do realise that cigarettes are more harmful than marijuana dont you and as a non cigarette smoker I'd love all bars to be non smoking (of the cigarette kind))

and i would love it if some bars were cigarette free!
