Solar Powered Plant Turners

Post by Trichome_Dense »

check these out : http://www.global-merchants.com/home/planturn.htm

I haven't got any, so can't comment - but um, with a static light source, the plants don't actually get a full radial cycle, but with these babies they can. So I'm thinking "Bigger yields" maybe?

The do one 360 cycle every 2 minutes :) sounds really good to me, However, they'll only work for movable potted systems (like soil) for obvious reasons...

I'm like really close to ordering a few... :)

Are they in the U.S? if they are then check how much they are going to cost to get into the country. I had an Okief sent over earlier this year and it cost me an extra £35 just to get it from parcelforce. That was on top of the cost of the item and original postage.

I havent found out how much it will cost to send over to blighty... yet. :D I'd imagine it would go on weight of said product. However, I think the cost incurred would be worth it, as I estimate that with no hotspots and full light coverage the end result would amount to bigger yields.

I did have one query, would the solar turners work under HPS light? so I went back on the site and yep - they work under artificial light fine. And can take a weight of up to 15 kilos to boot :) SO I'm even closer to investing in a few, just to see how they'd fare against plants which won't be turned. If the yields prove worthy, I'll post up here to letcha all know... however, the wait may be long as I'm currently unemployed and money is so tight, I can't even afford seeds lol.

Any contributions would be savvy :)

If you would like something cheaper that works at least as good if not better. Put a layer of Solarig Solaroof 140 between your lights and the plants. It disperses the light to give you light to every part of the plant better plus keeps the heat of the lights of the plant. I have this stuff covering my greenhouse and when you are inside it you do not have a shadow because of the way the light disperses. It is supposed to reduce light by 10%, but increase your yield by 12% because your plants get better light.

Interesting have been thinking how something like this would work in a limited height growroom with side lighting, possibly the plant would not grow as high but instead would branch outward in a wide pattern--I'm sure this product or its like would be available in the UK somewhere thus cutting down shipping costs .

This is interesting, thanks Sam.... gonna look into this for a friend of mine.

bearing in mind that the plant turners also reduce the available grow height, I still think you won't have a problem with them. If you have limited grow height, I suggest topping them a few times to maintain shorter plants but with more colas.

Yeah, we need a UK distributer for this... definitely. The plants that sit in corners get good light with these turners and you don't have to fiddle about with moving the plants ever few hours - convenient? I think so :)
