Cannabis Cafe's to become members only clubs?

Post by AmDamMan »

The prospective Dutch Government has announced it's coalition agreement.
Take a look at http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2 ... ity_is.php

Under 'other measures' it says that coffeeshops will become members only with a pass system. Although I am sure this will be highly contested and hugely unpopular in a time of economic crisis to be turning away business at the door, and I'm sure if it did get through the parliament the main coffeeshops would find a way around it, such as signing members up at point of purchase, but the whole agreement seems a dissapointing turn for the netherlands.

Them becoming members clubs has been spoke about before, I think Nol said all they had to do was charge everyone €1 and make them life-time members, the only problem would be if the government made the members dutch citizens only.

It would take Amsterdam under a year to realise its hard to repave roads and pay teachers without any money coming into the city.

This government will have a majority of one. That being said, this whole thing is troubling.

Would the members only thing be per coffeeshop or would 1 membership cover all coffeeshops?.

I think Amsterdam would be alright considering it has so much more for tourists rather than just the coffeeshops.
I was told a Dutch saying once, "In The Netherlands, the money is made in Rotterdam, divided up in The Hague and spent in Amsterdam"

This is the most salient point...a govt.only possible because its backed by a bunch of racial bigots, who can vote against any proposed legislation, aint gonna last long...I'll give it til Xmas...but i cannot understand why any sane thinking person, would want power this much...could you imagine the Tories and LibDems in UK going into govt. with the BNP backing them up ?????... :? :? :?...because this is exactly what the Dutch have signed up to... :(

I'm guessing that if the coffee shops are smart they would form some kind of coop or affiliation so that you could have membership on a town or provincial basis.

More worrying is the nationality thing, I suspect it might affect a lot of non-national residents too (esp in Den Haag).

Any idea on the timetable for this?
