The prospective Dutch Government has announced it's coalition agreement.
Take a look at http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2 ... ity_is.php
Under 'other measures' it says that coffeeshops will become members only with a pass system. Although I am sure this will be highly contested and hugely unpopular in a time of economic crisis to be turning away business at the door, and I'm sure if it did get through the parliament the main coffeeshops would find a way around it, such as signing members up at point of purchase, but the whole agreement seems a dissapointing turn for the netherlands.

I think Amsterdam would be alright considering it has so much more for tourists rather than just the coffeeshops.Iko wrote:It would take Amsterdam under a year to realise its hard to repave roads and pay teachers without any money coming into the city.
I was told a Dutch saying once, "In The Netherlands, the money is made in Rotterdam, divided up in The Hague and spent in Amsterdam"
This is the most salient point...a govt.only possible because its backed by a bunch of racial bigots, who can vote against any proposed legislation, aint gonna last long...I'll give it til Xmas...but i cannot understand why any sane thinking person, would want power this much...could you imagine the Tories and LibDems in UK going into govt. with the BNP backing them up ?????...Marco wrote:This government will have a majority of one. That being said, this whole thing is troubling.
"That cats something i can't explain"
No, YOU DON'T!!! how can you, of all people, cast aspersions about what anybody else knows? you are an archetypical 'know it all', however, you know jack shit!!!Marco wrote:No one has any idea.Dave J wrote:Would the members only thing be per coffeeshop or would 1 membership cover all coffeeshops?.

No one knows since the law has not been written since there is no government in place. I guess that was covered in the 9th grade

They HAVE been gunning after the coffeeshops for years! but on the other hand the nederlands has other problems right now & like marco says its not a pressing issue compaired to immigration & the economy (for now),Not saying were not on there radar but like someone else said "coalition govts" cant seem to agree an anything + rarely run there course anyways! especially ones that have there hands full,Look at italy & belgium for examples! italy has had like 18 govts in 22 years & belgium cant seem to agree on anything at all,If push does come to shove people better have some decent shoes & a warm coat to go pounding the streets to reclaim there human rights & whatnot
,If we were honest we were expecting a fight with this right wing alliance lead by geert wilders! + the CDP party morons not far behind
,& it was just a matter of time before we started to hear noises about coffeeshops & here it is! i just hope the dutch people dont let them push threw all this crap & kick them out again before they have a chance to change/close anything,Its not us who are under pressure its THEM,If they go chopping left & right with these so called "Austerity Cuts" looming they better watch & think carefully as any rash move could spell the end for them all! like the saying goes when your in a hole,Like they are you STOP digging
,Lol & if its anything like there smoking ban it will be laughed out the door in the 1st place
.

I'm guessing that if the coffee shops are smart they would form some kind of coop or affiliation so that you could have membership on a town or provincial basis.
More worrying is the nationality thing, I suspect it might affect a lot of non-national residents too (esp in Den Haag).
Any idea on the timetable for this?
