I've been researching these forums to get some coffesops to visit ahead of my upcoming trip to Amsterdam in two weeks. I was wondering what places you guys would recommend that play good chillout, electronica or dubstep music? It mostly seems to be about classic rock or reggae or maybe some dance in Amsterdam

On a general note, what would you guys say plays good music in general? Not necessarily specific to the genres I listed.

Yes,de Rokerij for chilled stuff,Baba for more uptempo electronica...but a lot shops play an esoteric selection of anything from Jazz to Psych to Blues to World Music ...examples would be Paradox,Picasso,LaTertulia,Tweede Kamer ,Katsu and others 8) ...Oh and if you want some Zappa,Beefheart et al,then head to de Kuil (420) :) ...

Each time I've been to Coffeeshop 36 they've been playing good chillout music, Hill Street Blues I like too and sometimes play trance, but depends who's controlling the selection and Baba for banging trance (wish Baba was bigger)

Any coffeeshop or pub specialising in trance, chill out and good electronica music is a huge plus in my books, trance all the way for me when in Amsterdam.

Thanks, Basjoe, Coffeeshop 36 and Hill Street Blues are all definitely on my list of places to visit. I went to one Rokerij shops last time but wasn't impressed by the pushy staff. I'll make sure to note down the other suggestions too if we're short of a place to go.
