Option 3 for me. I might actually do something worthwhile If there were no pot-shops.

option 2 for me. as much as i love the place, its the freedom of being able to sit and smoke without feeling like a criminal that i go for.

Option 1, am just an occasional smoker, love the country anyway, and given that we've just rented a new house over there and am offski as soon as I can sell my flat, I think my other half might get a wee bit annoyed if I didn't come back

Assuming that Geert will let me back in of course, I don't own any Cat Stevens CD's so I should be okay....

I guess my situation is quite different though.

If it was down to buying off the street or a dodgy dealer how differant would it be from any other city in the world, it's not like Amsterdam is the weed mecca of the world either, I must admit I doubt I'd be in a hurry to go back, I keep putting off places like Brugges and Paris because Amsterdam has always had the coffeeshops.

Way back when I first went the whispering dealers were selling anything 'cheaper then coffeshop' and 'best in amsterdam' - you know I miss their cheeky little faces

#2. So many places in the World to visit. The weed combined with the close proximity and the cheap cost of flights is why I keep going back. Without the weed I don't see the point, done/seen most of the things to see/do there over the years anyway.

2...I've been so many times,i only go for the Smoke now...tho i would miss walking/cycling around the canals and admiring the scenery ...
but then i could put the money into growing my own ...

No 2 for me, I wouldnt go again if i couldnt relax in a coffeeshop with a spliff!!!. I've seen Amsterdam, so the only reason i keep going back is to enjoy the freedom of smoking a spliff, drinking a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate and chatting aload of rubbish to whoever i meet in the shop

Well I hit No.3, after a bit of deliberation admittedly. I think my first ever trip to Mokum was in 1964 when I was a Seaman and then for the next 20 years. After that a bit of a break during the 80's (kids, no money) I got the bug again and have been a fairly regular visitor since, but I've tended to spend more time in other parts of the Netherlands as I like doing cycle trips. I certainly wouldn't go so regularly if there wasn't any puff to be had, it's the only way a chap in my condition could do a 90km bike ride in a day. Without a bit of Super Silver rocket fuel my journeys would be much shorter.
Would I never go there again? I think I probably would just for old times sake but it would be a sad day indeed to see the character of Holland so changed.

I'd def go for atleast 1 last trip if anything just to have a last long wander about

Of course I would...any 'pass system' can be cracked...simply buy a pass at Utrecht Hoog Catherijne, Den Haag Holland Spoor, or Rotterdam Centraal... said in the voice of the lovely lady on the intercom at Dutch railway stations...haha

Voted 2. As much as I like the place, after 6 trips there's really not that much new and different for me. Maybe I would head to south east asia, morocco or cali for weed break.

I voted option 2, as like the above poster there cant be to much left to see after 5 trips in my case.

But what I would do it leave it 10 years and then go back again to see how the place has changed. So if it does change a lot in the next 12 months then april will be my last trip for a good 10 years I feel.
