First time visit - during Cannabis Cup or not???

Hello, I'm a new member from Denmark, and I have studied this great page throughly. Me, my girlfriend and a couple of friends are planning on going to Amsterdam in some months.

Our original plan was to come during the cannabis cup (nov. 19-23), but my girlfriend (who has been to Amsterdam once, but not during the cup) believes that all the coffeeshops will be way to crowded during the cannabis cup. She thinks we will enjoy it much more if we go before the cup, as it wont be as crowded.

Me and my friends are however very interested in the cannabis cup - we would like our first trip to Amsterdam to be a great one.

The questions are therefore: Would it be best to have the first trip during or before the cannabis cup? Is it very crowded during the cup? Is it impossible to get seating in the good coffeeshops during the cannabis cup? Is the weed-market better during the cup?

In advance, thank you very much.

Mecka

i've heard it gets quite busy and crazy during the cup....still lots of lesser known shop that wouldn't be as effected, but busy overall.

Shops that participate in the Cannabis Cup have been known not sell their top rated hash/weed in the weeks leading up to the competition (gives them a better chance of winning) so I would say that the same would probably happen DURING the competition as well.

Mind you, not every shop takes part and not taking part doesn't necessarily mean that a shop is shit compared to one that does take part.

I can imagine it being pretty busy (like others have said)

If you are planning to go at that time of the year then perhaps you should wait until closer to Christmas time. I've seen plenty of posts from people saying how much the city really comes alive at that time of year.

Why would they hold back the best stuff during the cup?

As far as the CC is concerned I say save your money and go the week after, the shops still have the cup weed/hash and its a hell of a lot quieter, theres over 250 coffeeshops in Amsterdam and something like 20 take part in the cup and those aren't always the best ones, the Greenhouse wins a lot of the competitions and if you read Nol Van Shaiks opinion on the cup then you'd know that its fixed. (he apparently had some lighters to pick up for his coffeeshops (willie wortels in Haarlem) and the same people were made some for the Greenhouse stating they were the cup winners that year even though the cup hadn't been run and low and behold they won that year...

Just thought they might keep it for the judges during the competition, rather than the ordinary joe on the street.

Might be wrong though, hey it has been known round these parts.

I've never been, (I certainly hope to as soon as possible), but I'd think it's best to go when it's quietest.

Shop clerks will be nicer, streets will be less crowded, generally everything would be easier and more relaxed.

Indeed, M8.

That's exactly what I have planned. In fact, I have a room reserved at Uptown/Rookies, planning on arriving the 29th and staying for 8 days. The 29th is my wife's birthday, so I reckon I'll take her back to the Dam.

I was there last October and many of the top shops did not have their top gear available.

My main goal in November is to score some of the elusive, mythical, mystical CHEESE from Homegrown Fantasy. Hopefully they will have some at CC time, and some left over the week after.
