Hi Folks,

New to the forum, but not new to Amsterdam. I've managed to get there at least every few years since 1998. I'm changing jobs at the end of this month, and planning a long weekend alone in the Dam from 28 October - 1 November. I've rented a houseboat near Waterlooplein, and am taking the boat train from London. I spent a lot of time on airplanes at my last job, and train and ferry just feel like a much more relaxing way to travel. I'm planning on bring a sketchbook, a guitar, and no computers (other than my phone).

Plan is to walk the canals, do some sketching, try to write a song, and of course, spend some time in coffeeshops.

The coffeeshops are one of Amsterdam's great pleasures. It's not just the legality and variety of cannabis either, although that's a part of it. It's also the culture, the interesting people that you meet, and the conversations you have there, that make them such a joy.

Reading this forum so far has reminded me a lot of that, and I'm looking forward to being a part of this forum, and hopefully meeting a few of you while I'm there.
