two coots go smoking in eindhoven

Post by StonedSince67 »

02/03/2021 - This thread is now dedicated to spidergawd ... "What a long strange trip it is ..."

thursday 14 october 2010

recently spidergawd bought his dream car, a japanese land cruiser type vehicle which is big enough to carry all of the grandchildren and a few of the parents ... since then he has been busy ensuring that the vehicle is in tip-top condition from its heavy-duty fan down to the fuel jets

thinking that the cruiser needed a good long run to road test the tuning work spidergawd decided that the hoge veluwe national park and the kröller-müller museum in south central netherlands deserved a visit and he kindly offered me the opportunity to be navigator for the weekend trip ... it took me no time to reply with an enthusiastic "yes please"

as the cd player on the cruiser was not working i offered to bring my sony mp3 walkman to plug into the cassette deck via an adaptor so that we would have music ... i can't do any long road miles without music ... fortunately spidey agreed with that idea

in order to get an early euro tunnel train i travelled to spidey's house the night before departure and immediately requested a test run of the car for the sound system ... i needed to know that we would have music for the trip

the sound test was successful and we returned to an indian take-away, some thai and then began to review the plan ... in the forum epsilon had once recommended speak easy, a coffeeshop in 's-hertogenbosch (otherwise known as den bosch) and after i had looked at their menu on flybynite's website and saw that they had a 25 euro deal on super silver haze, i began to lobby for bypassing breda and pax de boot for the first smoke and head directly to den bosch ... fortunately spidey agreed, so now we had a plan

friday 15 october

we were up and away at 445am and to the euro tunnel at folkestone ... along the way we listened to -

the grateful dead - the grateful dead
the grateful dead - workingman's dead
the grateful dead - american beauty
the grateful dead - from the mars hotel
various - deadicated (on cassette)

at folkestone we boarded as soon as we arrived and soon we were in calais

as the cassette finished we pulled into a motorway cafe for some coffee and when we returned to the car spidey pulled some thai out of thin air, so we had our first smoke much earlier than i had expected ... how cool was that ... now the miles would be stoned miles and with music, so to celebrate i put on -

the allman brothers - eat a peach
the doobie brothers - stampede
the doobie brothers - takin' it to the streets
the traveling wilbury's - the traveling wilbury's cds 1 and 2

soon we arrived at den bosch and parked the car at the transferium on the edge of town which provided car parking for the day and a bus into and out of the centrum for both of us for 2 euros in total

we made our way to the coffeeshop speak easy on snellesstraat in den bosch ... there was security at the door and we had to show our ids, both of used our passports so the security guy had a name and a photo to make him happy, the security was tough but done in good humour ... once inside i made my enquiries about the super silver haze at 2.5g for 25 euros (10e per gram) and was presented with a little bag which we took with our coffees back into the smoking room ... the atmosphere inside was good and we took the two empty chairs across from a couple of polite youngsters

i don't remember much about the interior as i was so focused on the super silver haze ... this was one of my favourite strains and the price was good and it was my first dutch smoke of the trip and ... it was all too much ... the weed, of course, was gorgeous ... it prepared easily by hand, rolled nicely, smoked divinely, and gave the most lovely of stones

i was very happy ...

meantime spidey had pulled out his magic flight vapouriser which had just arrived in the post the day before and he was still getting into the routine with it ... as a thank-you for inviting me along i offered him half of the ssh and he prepared his little machine with what his instructions called a 'load' ... this amounted to maybe 0.2 to 0.3 of a gram laying along a screen trough whose top edge was surrounded by a copper wire which became hot when the battery was pushed in and made contact ... no flame, just vapourised thc

spidey was very happy ...

the youngsters across the table became interested in the magic flight vapo and spidey gave them a demonstration with a fresh load of ssh and they each had a go with it ... they too were happy with the taste and the effect of the hit

before heading back to the car and the journey to eindhoven to check-in at the hotel in time for the t&t with cisco we wandered around the town ... boy, was i stoned and it seemed to me that i was walking across the market square in a long curved arc when i was trying to walk a straight line ... it was as if there was a strong cross-wind ... but there wasn't any cross-wind, just the effects of the ssh

after a salmon roll at la place in den bosch we returned on the bus to the car park ... as it was on the edge of town we were soon away and into eindhoven in good time for the t&t at the grasshopper

maybe it was the ssh or maybe it was the tiredness of a 4am start to the day, but i managed to get lost on the way to the grasshopper coffeeshop within 100 metres of the hotel, but soon i sorted out my micro-navigation and we arrived at the shop in good time for the t&t

it was a one room place and packed and lively, but we managed to get to the weed counter soon enough and found a table when we needed it ... i bought a gram of amnesia haze at 12 euros per gram to compare with the ssh, its close relative genetically

it wasn't long before cisco arrived and the acd forum could now clock up another successful t&t meeting ... thanks flybynite

spidey and cisco had met at another t&t, so recognition wasn't an issue and we immediately got down to preparing, rolling and smoking ... spidey had bought some orange bud as a medium strength alternative to the ssh, cisco bought the strong columbian haze

after the first smoke we headed off to another coffeeshop nearby named upstairs ... this is a shop that everyone writes about walking past it several times before finding the one doorway that takes you upstairs to upstairs ... luckily cisco knew the way and we up the stairs within a ten minute walk ... spidey bought some snow white a strong sativa and i bought some jack herrer for my medium strength alternative ... 0.8 grams cost 6 euros making it 7.50 euros per gram

spidey vapped his snow white, i smoked the amnesia haze from grasshopper and thought it was good but not as nice as the speak easy super silver haze, cisco bought a gram of something and i was fascinated to watch one gram being put through the grinder and into a long paper and then smoked to the end all in one motion almost ... i was conscious of my status as a regular light smoker as i had to relight my 0.3 gram joint of amnesia haze after it had gone out due to my stonedness ...

as friday had been a travelling day for all of us we decided to have an early night and made arrangements to have a t&t at upstairs the next night saturday

once outside cisco was good enough to point out to spidey and me the way back to our hotel before he disappeared into the now chilly eindhoven night ...

all in all a really good first day ... more tomorrow

It sounds like a great trip so far SS67! The music alone would be enough for me to want to crawl in the back of that Land Cruiser and hit the road with you guys. It sounds like you've found some good Bud as well, Cheers!

saturday 16 october

the day started peacefully enough with a substantial breakfast at 9am, but the peace was disturbed by our waiter's puzzlement when we described where we had parked the car the night before on, what we thought, were his own directions to the car park ... spidey became quite concerned about whether we had indeed put the car in the wrong place and that the car might have been towed away or that we might have to pay a fortune to get out of the car park ... so he finished his breakfast in a hurry and sped off to see what the story was

spidey found the car park and with relief saw that the car was still there ... it seems we were in the car park of the stadium of psv eindhoven football club, but spidey could see no payment station to get the receipt that opened the gate at the exit ... so he started walking around the stadium to find anything or anyone who could help ... eventually he made it back to where he started and noticed the club shop so in he popped ... seeing silver linings in every cloud he took the opportunity to buy a small present for his wife, i think it was a psv eindhoven pennant ... as he paid for the present he asked the girl behind the till how to pay for the parking and after he told his story the girl gave him a little ticket which she said would open the gate ... so in the end there was no disaster with the car and, as if by a miracle, the overnight parking was free! ... sometimes the dutch just knock me out with their problem-solving skills

well now the panic was over and spidey was ahead by one small present for his wife so off we headed for the main destination of the trip - the hoge veluwe national park and the kröller müller museum

http://www.hogeveluwe.nl/en/14
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoge_Veluwe_National_Park
http://www.kmm.nl/?lang=en

with either his magic flight or his iolite vaporiser spidey can just sit in a car park before heading off and toke away to his heart's delight ... if i light up my homemade pre-rolls the clouds of smoke billow out from the cracked-open skylight and give away the game ... so spidey could toke before we started driving, but i needed a moving vehicle to do the same ... in any case the day was started by spidey with the orange bud from upstairs and by me with the super silver haze from speak easy in den bosch ... something gentle for the driver and something strong for the navigator ... the mood was mellow but high and not too stoned so the music for the journey was -

pink floyd - dark side of the moon
pink floyd - wish you were here

after a pretzel of an exit of the road near arnhem we finally found the road into the hoge veluwe national park and signs for the kröller müller museum so we could now relax, found the entrance to the park, paid the entrance fee at the gate and were offered three options (1) walk the 9 kilometers to the museum (2) use one of the free white bicycles to cycle through the park and see the wildlife and end up at the museum or (3) drive the car to the car park at the museum entrance ... well we had talked about cycling, but the day was very windy though the skies were clearing and the sun was beginning to peek through, so we drove

as we sauntered along as slowly as we could manage with the other traffic i kept seeing the start of footpaths going off into forests ... i had seen little symbols for walkers on my map and now i realised that the forests of the park were covered by several long footpaths which criss-crossed the park ... as a hiker/trekker/mountain-walker i saw pathways heading off into the distance and i wanted to find out where they went ... i wanted to stop the car, put my boots on and head for the little patch of sunlight i could see at the end of a long stretch of path and find out what delights were in the distance

when we got to a bit of high ground which was a very large sand dune i made spidey stop the car and i just had to have a good look

Image

soon we were at the museum, parked and heading into entrance ... there were several large sculptures just outside the entrance and we became absorbed by these for 10-15 minutes or so before we went in ... just after showing our tickets we became absorbed by a couple of displays of inuit sculptures of animals and mother-and-child figures ... and we hadn't even reached the real galleries yet

after a coffee we hit the galleries with quite different styles ... i did a quick tour around all the rooms of the museum galleries to get an overview of what was there and what i might like to revisit on the second round ... spidey was more detailed and meticulous and looked at everything before moving on ... as i did my first round i became aware that here was a substantial collection of paintings and sculpture and any true lover of art has to visit this place at least once, the collection is quite impressive as is the story of how the museum came to exist ... on my second slower round i looked at things more carefully and eventually caught up with spidey who had visited this place a few years ago when cycling around the netherlands

after the tour of the galleries we headed out into the sculpture park and walked all around it, seeing sculptures placed in a clear area of grass or discovering more sculptures hidden in the trees or bushes or little clearings reached by small pathways ... as a measure of how discreet the magic flight vapo is, spidey was able to sit on a bench on a little knoll overlooking a huge sculpture and have a bit of orange bud in full view of all the passers-by and no one took any notice of him ... i really wanted a smoke too, but i smoke smokey joints and had to wait ...

sometimes i play a game and 'choose' pieces from a museum i would like to take home and put somewhere in my house ... my favourites from this visit are the following -

Caféterras bij nacht (Place du Forum)
Terrace of a café at night (Place du Forum)
C. 16 September 1888
Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890)

Image

Zittende man met gitaar
1921
Jacques Lipchitz (1891 - 1973)

after a great visit and a pre-drive coffee and apple tart and a quick smoke just out of the car park we returned to eindhoven with the sounds of early pink floyd -

pink floyd - meddle

as we got closer to eindhoven and the traffic became more manic we moved on to the early rolling stones -

the rolling stones - the rolling stones
the rolling stones - 12x5

after parking the car and heading back to the hotel we turned into wilhelminaplein and saw the bar next to the hotel and thought that a beer or two would be a nice end to the day's outing before the evening's t&t ... spidey went for the leffe brown on tap and i had the leffe blonde in a bottle ... as always the beer went down too easily

at 830pm we made our way to upstairs and found it after only one miss of the vital doorway and went up the stairs to a very cosy and pleasant coffeeshop ... i opted again for the 0.8g of jack herrer for 6 euros and spidey got the snow white a strong sativa

as soon as i rolled up and started smoking the grasshopper amnesia haze, cisco and his friend george arrived and yet another acd t&t meeting was successful ... after some smokes everyone decided that dinner was needed, cisco and george had a reservation at a tapas restaurant, so spidey and i went with them to the restaurant area of town where we had some italian food ... after we finished we went to see how cisco and george were getting on with their tapas and they were still deep into their meal and it looked like it would be a little while before they were ready to hit another coffeeshop, so spidey and i headed back to the hotel by way of the grasshopper

i got more amnesia haze as it was quite a good substitute for super silver haze and spidey bought some hash and checked the internet for the address of the conference centre where cisco's model show was to be held tomorrow

with the address in hand we called it a night and walked the 200 metres to the hotel and after all the walking around during the day i fell asleep within an instant

more tomorrow ...

It’s great to see the trip going up so quickly Stoney (SS’67 ? Stoned?) I’m not sure how to make your screen name, namelike :? , Stoney the trip coming out of your keyboard is sure the one we did. I was back to work today (not too painful) and coming home for a read has been fun and has had me laughing. The memory of your post super-silver orbital across the shopping plaza in particular albeit arriving precisely where you intended was definitely a monty python moment.
You only have one painting on your list I’m surprised, I thought with the Van Gogh you would certainly have chosen a Mondrian.
My best piece of sculpture this visit is
The Armada by Cornelius Rogge,
Image
I think my grandkids would enjoy it.

Painting? Well I don’t know art but I have, since I first saw it a couple of years ago in the big VG exhibition in Amsterdam, found this is one that really does it for me and is a side of Van Gogh that a lot of people who look at his work possibly don’t notice. I was always dazzled by his vivid colours before but this is a dark one.

It was a great little journey and your navigation and music made the kilometres almost painless so cheers for that matey, anyway I know I won’t have to wait long for the next instalment, so thats great and keep on truckin’ old geezer :D

sunday 17 october

the plan for the day started with two parts - the first part was to explore eindhoven on foot and see what the city itself had to offer the wanderer, the second part was to get into the cruiser and head down to the konigshof conference centre in nearby veldhoven to see the small model challenge 2010 where cisco was entering 3 models

after getting lost twice in the small section of streets between the hotel and the coffeeshop grasshopper i decided to test a new route and not only did the route work the coffeeshop was open at 10am, so we popped in ... spidey bought some hash and vapped the snow white while i smoked the amnesia haze i had left over ... spidey double-checked the internet for the address of the conference centre

the hotel had provided us with a map of eindhoven that showed a tourist route around the centre of eindhoven, so spidey and i decided to walk around it before heading out in the early afternoon to catch the model show ... well we started out on the route but quickly became distracted by the wealth of detail around us, particularly the nearby catharina kerk with its lovely big clocks

as an added incentive for the walk we had decided to stop off at the coffeeshop new wave when we were at the southern end of the tourist route ... at some point in our distracted wanderings we realised that we were crossing the river with grassy areas running alongside and that new wave was just around the corner

the shop is divided in two by a glass wall with the bud counter off to the right ... i was quite keen to visit this place as forum member jasmeena had spoken highly of it in a coffeeshop review and dirty uncle ron had raved about the super silver haze ... well there was no ssh and nothing else on the menu excited me, fortunately spidey became interested in the new york city diesel, a variety that is not to my taste ... i asked whether i could just smoke my own and there was no problem with this

we then entered the back room behind the glass wall and it was huge ... screens on the walls were playing music videos, there was a large and nice-looking pool table and some electronic games machines ... we sat in one of the large booths with u-shaped cushy bench seating and it was all very pleasant

the new york city diesel was a major hit with spidey in his magic flight vaporiser ... it became his weed of the trip ... it had the flavour on intake, the aroma on exhale, the kick that a good weed can have and staying power ... when he put a load in his little wooden device it gave him many many hits ... basically the nycd was everything you could hope for in a bud of weed ... spidey was well pleased

because our visit to the new wave was so comfortable we ran out of time for our tourist tour on the suggested route, so we headed back to the car and set out for the model show ... we arrived around 2pm and followed the red arrows to the conference centre car park which was a grass field with large metal plates laid as the roadway ... spidey went to the very end beyond the metal plates and got some off-road experience ... well ok it was only 10 metres, but it was real off-road metres ... he decided to park a little ways away from the other cars so he could have another vape of his now beloved nycd

after leaving the car park we were a little unsure of exactly where the entrance to the conference centre was, but then we saw a stream of men with plastic bags in their hand or, in some cases, in both hands ... then we realised this was a model show and there would be vendors selling their stuff to the public, so we just followed the ant trail of modellers to the venue entrance

when we arrived the models were still being judged so we couldn't see cisco's models just yet, but spidey texted cisco and we soon met up with him and george ... as it was lunchtime we hit the cafeteria provided by the venue and it was quite a decent offering, good quality and sufficient variety as well as being reasonably priced ... then the models were still being judged so we split up and looked at everything ... well not everything because there were just too many vendors and too many models and accessories and club stands and model-makers sat at tables working on models and talking to the public ... basically it was an amazing scene

finally the judges were finished and the public could have a look at the competition models and it was a mad rush to get in and see them and photograph them ... everywhere people had cameras and were taking photo after photo of these stunning models ... some were models places on a small wooden block and some had simple landscapes and some had elaborate landscapes and some were major dioramas of models and buildings and people and trees and grass and road and just everything ... it was quite intriguing to witness

the afternoon was spent eating at the cafe, looking at all the models, chatting with george or cisco, heading out to the car parked at the back of the grassy car park for a smoke and waiting for the judges results at 445pm ... cisco bought some paint in 'Fresh Mud' and, i think, 'Weathering' colours ... amazing

after the results were announced we gave cisco and george a lift back into town and as i had been asking them about whether they had come across silver haze or super silver haze and cisco said he had bought some ssh at the coffeeshop the wall up in northern eindhoven so we made arrangements to meet them at the wall after dinner

spidey was looking for a brief crash at the hotel so i stopped off at the coffeeshop the pink quite nearby ... fortunately for me they had silver haze which was 1.36 grams for 15 euros or about 11 euros per gram, a reasonable price for a good example of this variety ... it was all i could have hoped for ... this is a variety that satisfies all my demands of a weed ... i was very pleased to have stumbed across it as well as having visited another new shop

spidey and i decided to walk the 2 kilometers to the wall and then see if we could find somewhere to eat ... it was a long slog up the road but we found the coffeeshop and next door was a turkish restaurant ... while we were eating cisco and george arrived so soon we were inside the wall (after saying a polite good evening to the very big doorman) and i was buying some super silver haze ... this i found needed a night's drying before i could prepare and roll it pure ... so i smoked some more of my beloved silver haze

soon we decided to move on to the coffeeshop meet point up the street and here i found some amnesia haze so i was happy ... from the expressions on everyone faces everyone else was happy too ... we knew that spidey was happy because he kept raving about the nycd

finally it was time to hit the 2.5 kilometer slog back to wilhelminaplein and our hotel ... cisco and george were a little bit closer than that so they headed off down a side road and were soon back at their place ... before they left we said our goodbyes and wished them a pleasant visit to amsterdam for the next couple of days

for spidey and me the trip was now over and there was only the long drive back

monday 18 october

after an early breakfast spidey headed off to put money into the car park meter so we would be cool to leave after the 9am start to the parking day ... he also took the opportunity to go the local albert heijn and buy some more small foodie presents for his wife

after spidey's usual quick and discreet toke on his vape we were away by 10am ... i waited until we had negotiated the many ring roads around eindhoven and were heading down the a67 to antwerp before i smoked ... this was our final day and everything had to be either smoked or, because my policy is to travel clean, given away or discarded ... earlier in the morning while spidey was shopping i had rolled all the super silver haze and the amnesia haze i had left into pre-rolls ... now was my time to smoke, spidey was stoned, the route was clear for the next hour or so, spidey didn't mind if i smoked in the car as long as we cracked open the sunroof and the rear vents ... so i entered the land of the super-silver-hazed folk and it was great

we had tried to listen to ian fleming's from russia with love, a james bond adventure, but because the windows were cracked open and we were travelling at motorway speeds we couldn't hear it properly, so we put the grateful dead tape back in -

various - deadicated (cassette)

since we were coming up to antwerp i wanted to stop at a picnic area to study the maps and to finish off my smokes ... we managed to find one with a picnic table way at the back of the grassy area, so i took my maps and spread them out on the table, finished off two small silver haze joints and worked out the route through antwerp and gent to calais

i realised that my throat was calling time on the smoking and that i had smoked all of my very best of the trip, so i bundled everything up that remained and popped it into the bin ... i was now travelling clean

we resumed our journey to the sounds of early neil young -

neil young - everybody knows this is nowhere
neil young - after the gold rush
neil young - harvest

we arrived at the calais euro tunnel for our 1520 train, were soon into the folkestone euro tunnel terminal and then onto the m20 north ... spidey was kind enough to drop me off at the train station for my journey home

it was the end of a great trip and one i could easily repeat ... so thanks spidey for the invite, it was a fun trip for me with lots of new things to see and some great smoke ... cheers

Cheers SS67, great read mate. I've always wanted to do a Cross country style road trip in Holland.

I love Van Goths work... and im not totally sure but the picture that "Spidey" mentioned, The Potato Eaters, i think was the only picture that VVG sold while he was alive :-) i may be wrong tho!!!

I've been Eindhoven once before and found Grasshopper and Eurogarden coffeeshops, didnt think the weed was great, but was a euro or 2 cheaper than the Amsterdam coffeeshops.
Excuse me while I light my Spliff.....

A little birdy tipped me off on this report. Great read! That park has been on my "to do" list for a while. Hopefully some day in the future, I can make it. Got any pix of the Cruiser? I'm sad to say I'm selling my '85 FJ60.

The Maps

when spidey offered me a chance to go on a road trip to the south central netherlands, i said that if i could be the navigator, then "yes please" ... as spidey was the driver, he thought he could use a navigator, so the trip was on and the planning started ... eindhoven was chosen as the place to stop for the three nights of the long weekend of Friday-Monday, 15-18 October 2010

as the navigator i felt i should be able to direct spidey to anywhere he wished to go ... after all he had been a visitor to the area before as a touring cyclist and he knew that there were some new gems to be found and some old gems to be revisited ... if spidey said "let's go to apeldoorn to see such-and-such", then i should be able to get us and the vehicle to apeldoorn ... if he said "let's have a smoke in zutphen", then i should be able to get us not only to zutphen, but also right to the door of the coffeeshop

maps became the priority ... i had never been to this area and had no idea where anything was or how far apart places were ... so my first step was to go to the amazon website and order a road map of the south of the netherlands

Image

the second step was to find maps for the coffeeshops of all the places that spidey might want to visit and any other places that had good coffeeshops according to the feedback on the acd website both in the main pages as well as the forum ... well, coffeeshop maps for places such as apeldoorn and zutphen do not exist, so i had to make my own ... thinking that others may also find these maps useful i am including them in my travelogue

below please find the maps of the coffeeshops for apeldoorn, arnhem, breda, ede, eindhoven, 's-hertogenbosch (den bosch), tiel and zutphen ... clicking on the place name takes you to the individual post containing the list of coffeeshops and the map

Apeldoorn Coffeeshops

Arnhem Coffeeshops

Breda Coffeeshops

Ede Coffeeshops

Eindhoven Coffeeshops

's-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch) Coffeeshops

Tiel Coffeeshops

Zutphen Coffeeshops

please note that there are other good destinations in the area that are not listed above such as tilburg ... this is the list for one particular long weekend, but the area is rich with places of interest ready and waiting to be explored another time
