It is my understanding that for years Coffee Shops would represent an individual Breeder or Seed Company in the Cup but did not, in most cases, breed or sell seeds themselves; like Bull Dog, or Old Church, for example. Then the mega seed companies came along, like: Barneys Farm, Green House and Dampkring, (Kiwi Seeds). They not only breed and sell seeds, they have a chain of shops. 5 or 6 years ago Dampkring and Barneys represented other Breeders, like Soma, putting them more on an even level with all of the other shops. Now, it's obvious there is something influencing the Judging in favor of the big 3.Prestoned wrote:I cant blieve they sell seeds.
The cups bullshit, whoever throws the most of money at it, be it bribes, samples, advertising or merchandise etc, will win. Just my thoughts, enjoy it if your there tho.
How well a particular strain is grown must, have at least, something to do with the outcome. The big companies can put a lot of time and money into growing and curing the best possible samples. Case and point being when Kiwi Seeds (Mount Cook) beat out D.N.As (OG-18) for the Indica Cup, a few years ago. One of the Breeders from Kiwi seeds said that he thought the reason they won the Indica Cup was because they had an unusually well grown sample of Mount Cook. We all know that some of the best strains out there can really vary in quality depending on how well that particular Bud is grown and cured!
