Does cannabis really give pain relief?

When I had a toothache (now returned), I tried smoking some indica weed but it didn't do jack.

I'm beginning to think that the "pain relief" argument is majorly exaggerated and just used by stoners who want access to legal weed. Even if this stuff has pain relieving properties, it is nowhere near as good as a simple ibuprofen or paracetamol (Tylenol). Even booze is way better.

Or do I have it wrong? Anyone here use cannabis for pain relief and, if so, which weeds are the best?

This kills, I'm tempted to spark up some of the Kuchi I bought the other day but I've got shit to do. Mind you, I can't do jackshit until the pain goes away!

best pain relief for toothache go the dentist probably needs fillin or takin out nothing worse than toothache feel for you pal

lol thats where I went today. Got half a root canal done but the work has inflamed the nerves in the area so need something to get over the first day or two of pain.

This pain is driving me crazy. Already taken paracetamol and ibuprofen. Might stop taking them and just get drunk instead.....

I have constanly got a bad back, not crippling but still noticeable. Weed does little to help, bubble hash works better.

Not sure if it helps people with real problems tho. Personally I think it doesnt help much, its all in the mind.

But if smoking reduces pain or aids in other ways, go for it. Bottom line is that an improve is noticed.

Probably gonna get moaned at now.......

Smoking it quite possibly the worst thing to relieve toothache, if anything the smoke will make things worse.

Even when I was a tobacco smoker I always found smoking made any tooth related pain worse, I'd guess the smoke gets into the tooth and the 2 things dont get on, take Puffins advice and get an edible of some sort, I'd probably make something myself that is savory over buying something sweet as well.

Marijuana is used mostly for inflamation when it comes to pain. A toothache is a nerve issue and like Boner said the smoke in your mouth will probably only irritate it.
