It seems to me that driving in Amsterdam would be a major buzzkill. Pierre, where are you from? Just curious.

ok i just understood that there are 2 trams near to our hotel that reach to dam sqaure and the area so we dont need car,and tanks for the tips about the car problem in the center.

and geoffk we are 2 couples from israel

Cool! I was asking to make sure you'd be comfortable driving in Europe, especially in a congested City.

Amsterdam is a definite no-go for tourists with hire cars. Probably 90%+ of the cars you will see close to the centre will be locals. The transport over there is so good that you really don't need one anyway.

dont take a car(i had to due to having small kids with me and we were travelling up north to the islands), it costs a fortune i parked in q-park and if i remember right it was nearly 50 euros for 24 hours,plus once close to the centre car is not needed,plus there is more to see on foot,but if you do dont do it baked its not fun,its quite busy and unforgiving.
