Some will let you others won't it's that simple & to do with the smoking ban .
I've already told you about smoking in your hotel but again I wouldn't even bother , if I remember right if your caught smoking anywhere in the hotel a fine of E500? is taken from the card used to book
Use the search here aswell, theres afew threads on which hotels you can get away with smoking in

I stayed at a hotel that gave us a room in the nonsmoking section that didnt have a good window that opened. I went to the front desk and they ask me if it was because of the non smoking? I said yeah and with out distinguishing between cigs and pot. Well they moved us to another nonsmoking room and when we walked in, there was a small balcony so they worked with me without asking too many questions. I thought that was cool.

Depends what * place you looking for?
Most 4* don't allow it. Some 3* don't. Many 1* and 2* in the RLD area don't give a shit.
Like I said, it depends what you're looking for. How many *? Location central/Lediseplein/further out?
Tell us what you want and peeps can give a better idea.

The LAST thing you want in Amsterdam is a car, there in nowhere to put it, let alone trying to find it again.
Unless youve payed some crazy deposit why not just switch hotels, look at this section, tons of hotels that have great deals in better locations.
