This government looks set to ban the Burka (are you really surprised they want to close coffeeshops?), and talks about closing coffeeshops not only because of drug tourism and the problems it brings to boarder towns, but also because of a pacived problem of Muslim youth using the coffeeshops:shock: ?!!

I am amazed a few months after finally moving to this country of tolerance, it swings so far to the right. But maybe this is to do with judging a country on my experiences in Amsterdam? I am beginning to think Amsterdam should be a country all of its own... IMO, The Dutch are actually not that tolerant at all, and Christian politics has a huge influence in this country.

Welcome to reality! NL was NEVER tolerant and has always been strongly Christian party. It has always had a few extreme right Christian parties with seats in Parliament. The ironic thing, these parties are often driving some progress on things that seem 'tolerant' such as asylum for refugees, etc.

It is an illusion that the Dutch were ever tolerant. They are practical, big difference and to a large degree, simply don't give a shit if you smoke weed, get gay married and all that stuff. This has been historically a way to survive as a small country that is full of different people from all over.

You are right, you do sound like a dick, just beacuse u may not want to read it, it doesnt mean other people dont, i was under the impression this was a forum that allowed free speech, and 2011 is less than 2 months away so in my book that is quiet soon, if these changes could take place in the next 6 months then maybe people who dont read/watch the news would like to stay up to date on the situation so they can get to arrange trips over there etc.
