Where not to go?

I was taught years ago a method to scare wannabe robbers and such. I didnt know if it would work until I was down on Bourbon street in new with a group of 5 of us at 3 am and we were heading back to our hotel and were surrounded by 5 youths well I look one of them in the eye, started talking real loud and said... HEY HOW THE HELL ARE YOU. They stop and turned around and backed off. ANother time I was here a store and was loading things into my truck when I could see a hoodlum from four rows over. Well out of the corner of my eye I seen him jot over towards my car picking up speed and was heading right towards me and I turned around and said HEY HOWS IT GOING. He slow down, we had eye contact and he slowly walked away. I dont know if its catches them off guard or what but it has worked twice for me. Now I dont know if I would try this if they had a gun. Oh and I forgot to add... You need to swing your arms alot too.. lol

Stick within the A10 (road) and you'll be fine.

Ha ha, bad advice, there are tons of dodgy areas within the A10.

There are areas you should not go in the New West (inside the A10) and the Bijlmer but there is no way you will stumble in on them stoned unless you take a 30 min metro or tram ride.

Obviously, do not go to somewhere with anyone you meet out in the RLD.

Even the worst places are not bad at all, compared to a proper 'hood.

Where is bad in Nieuw-West?

Funny thing is, first time I went to Bijlmer I was shocked. It was much safer there than most places I have lived in the UK. Amsterdam is such a safe city compared to almost any city in the UK IMO.

But overall I agree with you. However, there have been loads of shootings in the west this year. A friend was knocked off her bike on the Jan van Galenstraat at 3AM on a Saturday this summer and robbed.

A few sporadic incidents over a large area. I know some are worried about these shootings, especially the gold robbery, but these incidents are fairly normal in most large cities.

I can't think of one reason why a tourist would come to Nieuw-West anyway. Unless they get off at Lelylaan and think it is Centraal Station

I like a straight left to the nose.....causing the nose to squirt like a fire hydrant......... has a great effect.... will end 99% of fights even when theres 2-3 on 1... but yeah your way works too...
