My dad's unit was the first to liberate a concentration camp on the western front. Here, the towns people of Ohrdruf were all forced to make through the camp the following day after its liberation by the 89th. My dad passed this year, but I remember the story perfectly. After being forced to walk through the camp, the mayor of Ohrdruf and his wife went home and committed suicide.
