Oh no, not a Viqueen fan. :x How you liking all that soap opera action in the Twink Cities? Looks like you're gonna be one loss closer to not making the playoffs this weekend.

That is okay, going to in Amsterdam Jan1-Jan9, so don't have to worry about missing a playoff game :P

This statement may be true for a Seahawks fan, but is a rash generalization at best :)

Yeah, that's alright I guess. Favre would have just blown it throwing a last minute interception in his usual style anyway. 8)

Hahaha.

If you were Spanish, then maybe we would listen to you.

Or maybe not.

And I think its American Football, not the real version.

so will the coffeeshops be open on news years day? Wouldn't it be a pity if this tourist ban was in place by the time I arrive.

Doubt it will be in place

Yes they are open, I go most years, most have later opening times 12pm/1pm etc from their usual 10am.

Some open later still, I'm guessing when the owners feel 'up to it'. Shouldn't struggle at all post lunch time.

Glad to hear it, I wont be arriving until mid afternoon on New Years Day. :D

On a somewhat related topic, should I expect that a lot of other businesses will be closed for the whole weekend? I was planning on doing some shopping on the 2nd (Puccini Bomboni!) and wasn't sure how many regular shops will be open...

Shops and pubs as well as cafes and restaurants outiside the main center may not open on the first, but there is no standard, it's a bit hit and miss.

From the 2nd you won't struggle, normal sunday opening tines will be in operation.

One thing to remember I guess is that new years is a peak tourist season in Amsterdam and comes right before the winter 'lull' and despite what some people on here will have you believe most establishments within the centrum and around the main areas are very tourist reliant and need to open to bring in that extra cash at the end of the year.

You really won't struggle that much

Thanks for that. That's what I thought as well but good to get some confirmation. Cheers!
