A quote taken from the justice minister from the above story.

"In the near future, IF we work out the processes, the coffee shops will not be accessible to tourists."

Note he does not say wehn we work out the process just if, so sounds like they are not really sure how to do this yet.

"The government wants people now only one pass with access to coffee shops. Also close all coffee shops in a radius of 350 meters of a school.

Earlier that Mayor Eberhard van der Laan know anything seen in the plans because he predicts that they prevent drugs nuisance on the street will increase. The SP wants to share this fear and counties to decide how to tackle drug-related nuisance."

Translation of above story, not a very good one but you get the general idea.

Sounds good to me though, at least some politicians seem to have there head screwed on, the fight back begins now.

The city of Amsterdam is not happy with intention of the new Dutch government to close coffeeshops for tourist and only allow cannabis sales to Dutch citizens who have a registration card.
Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan thinks that problems will arise if this new system would be introduced. Unlike the towns and small cities in the South of the Netherlands, Amsterdam has no problems with the millions of cannabis-loving tourists visiting every year. But the mayor is afraid that closing the coffeeshops nationwide would drive the trade underground. “It would set the clock back 30 years when people bought their weed in the streets and there was no control on public safety or public health”, the mayor said.

Coffeeshop membership? It hasn>t happened yet and that means it doesn>t have to happen. Can Dutch opinion not be turned away from intolerance?Who wants an increase in street dealing, the rip offs, the disturbance and breach of the peace, arguments and assaults?Surely not the police and the civil authorities.
And the native smokers-fortunate or unfortunate?Membership, details on a database. The conservative attitude amongst right wing elements seems to be-cannabis smokers-they>re not like us,if only they weren>t around, our little world would be so much better without them.Lets aim for responsible social purity, with the occasional hard drinking and hangover thrown in.Lets introduce drug testing gradually, for certain occupations, you understand.Well, what>s the point of the database,if we dont make more use of it?We know who they are and we know where they live.
