My experience with Google translate (and I use it for work) is that is fails miserable in those comment sections, the true point does not come across at all. But for well-written articles, it works great.SGawain235 wrote:TY. After reading some of the comments it is actually kinda sad.
From what it looks to me(and it could be that I am being misled by Google Translate) some of the commenters seem to want Amsterdam to be Paris or Milan. Below is one example.
The actual comment can be found here(but here is the translated version)

A'dam botst met Den Haag over coffeeshops
Amsterdam clashes with Hague over coffee shops
Amsterdam is the plan of the new cabinet for a pass system for coffee shops.
The measures of the Empire of coffee shops in Amsterdam will only cause problems. Before warns Mayor Eberhard van der Laan.
The government wants to close all coffee shops in a radius of 350 meters of a school. In addition, a pass system for visitors. According to Van der Laan, is counterproductive because it does this drug trafficking on the street will increase. He therefore wants the government to table quickly.
Minister of Justice, Ivo has already said would make no exception for Amsterdam. The new rules apply to it for the entire Netherlands.

Now that I agree with. Of course, if I were them I'd pump cash out of the stoners as long as I could as the US is getting closer and closer to legalization. However, as it stands now it looks like Amsterdam is going to go back and forth until we legalize it over here.
Did you think you'd get rid of me that easily?

Given time, quite possibly. The thing is that the US puts a LOT of pressure on other countries to keep weed illegal. What I think is going to happen is a lot like what happened with medical MJ. Please note that what is below is 100% speculation based on how things shook out with medical MJ. I could easily be VERY WRONG.smokseyj wrote:If the US legalises weed, do you think the UK will follow?
A state in the US is going to make marijuana legal in the same way that alcohol is illegal. The federal government is going to have an aneuryism and sue and bust and freak out. The problem is that(much like in the early 20th century) the feds don't have enough resources to bust all the pot smokers in a state. Time will pass and the world won't come crashing to an end. This will be the primary fulcrum of the argument to legalize in other states. This will happen gradually depending on the will of the population of the states.
I woud say that we'll get our first legal state around 2012 or 2014. Then we'll have about 1/2 to 2/3 of the states with legal pot by 2022.
By the time we reach about 5 states that are legalized I'm pretty sure that there will be two or three countries that will be petitioning the EU to let them legalize it for their countries(please note I think that the Netherlands will NOT be one of those countries).

just thought, if tourists do get banned from going in CS' and buying weed does that mean that tourists would be banned from buying magic truffles etc as well? And does it mean tourists would not be allowed to smoke weed in smoke friendly bars? If so surely it is completly un policeable?????

I just dont think i can see the UK being one of them countries....somebodyu once told me that due to the monarchy, england won't legalise it.....no explanation for that point though, just remembered being told it.SGawain235 wrote:Given time, quite possibly.
