If your going to visit 3 Museums it basicly makes the 3rd one almost free.
You can use it at the excellent museum in Haarlem as well, which is worth a stop at when your visiting my fave C.S. " Empire ".
No idea about the trams.

that depends on on ones Trance
the problems with the iAmsterdam card are:
a)

because it's a card and IAmalsostoned it's subject to being lost

, it's happened
b)

it becomes a race against a 24 or a 48 hour clock
c) all tram rides are included, this is a plus only if you get by step
A above
d) it includes a lot of museums, some of which are good. I can personally recommend the Van Gogh at about 2:30p peaking on truffles. Riejks Museum, Amsterdam History Museum, Botanical Gardens, Oulde Kerk, Neiuw Kerk, Canal Boat tour.
e) Trance is right that there are a lot of crappy options. no offense and all respect to all, but for me the Anne Frank museum wasn't worth the visit.

this is much better:
Museumkaart

The card represents a personal pass to enter more than 400 Museums in the Netherlands! It is valid one year and it costs €39.95 (€22.45 up to 24 years of age): a cheap way to explore Dutch museums, and every time you wish to! It is quite easy to purchase, you have only to fill a form and the card is immediately yours, together with a leaflet explaining the card's advantages and the museums you can enter for free divided per province.
In Amsterdam itself, 29 museums are included within the Museum Card:
* Allard Pierson Museum / Archeologisch Museum Der Universiteit Van Amsterdam
* Amsterdams Historisch Museum
* Bijbels Museum
* De Appel
* De Burcht / Vakbondsmuseum
* De Nieuwe Kerk
* EnergeticA

I usually get the 72 hour one and think they are great and will save you a lot of $ if you actually use it. Warning this card is not for someone who is just going to sit in coffeeshops and smoke weed all day in the center of town, not that there is anything wrong with that, but that gets really old after about second or third trip. The card gets you into most museums for free, discount at the zoo, a canal cruise(really cool), and yes it includes trams(hop on some and tour the city it is fun as hell while tripping on shrooms). I do not think the 24 or 48 hour cards are a good deal because you are too rushed to see everything at a nice pace. hope this helps and have fun.

Colina the museum card is a great deal, even for short stays. If you go a couple times a year I could not see traveling with out one. As far as transportation, at the airport you can buy a package with your return train fair and a 1, 2, or 3 day metro card. There are also metro cards only, good for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 days, works out to less than 5 euros a day for transport around the city.
Museums in the Netherlands have art, sculptures, tools, and objects of art that span over thousands of years, all you have to do is enjoy.
