Return tickets from BOS- AMS for May are running about $1100-$1300. Fortunately my buddy and I each had enough Delta Skymiles saved up to pay for our May trip to Amsterdam.

Total cost from Boston - Amsterdam: $60 each in taxes fees. Non-stop red-eye flight...landing at Schipol at 6 in the morning.

I have a feeling that Central Coffeeshop will be my first stop of the trip.

This will be my first time in Amsterdam. The anticipation is killing me already. BTW, I am 41, married with 2 teenage kids and I've been planning this trip for years now.

BARGAIN!!!!! From London?

Our 4some have paid £80 each, thats flight, taxes, check-in (WTF?!), and Fuel duty (?????). & We might all share one suitcase between us (+ our own hand luggage each), thats another £3.50ish each. Quite happy with that.

I really feel sorry for our friends over the pond who pay stupid amounts! What can we do eh?

Believe me when I say it may not seem that much of a bargain sitting in the same coach seat for 12hrs, good luck "waking up and your there" lol

Then factor in munchies for the coach travel to and from the bus station and whatever expenses there are it's actually not that much of a bargain (sorry for sounding so negative it's just I have personally done the trip)

I usually spend about $3,000 on a trip for 10 days. When I go during the cup it's sometimes closer to $4,000.

Balou

Can I flip this question, and ask, If I was hitting the States for, say 3 weeks, what would be a good starting figure. I understand the Dollar is like Monopoly money just now

I think you could easily do it about $2,000. Unless you plan to spend an extended amount of time in say LA, NY or Miami. With the exchange rate in your favor you should have a great time!

Thats alot more than i thought balou,I spent about 100 pounds on a flight & took about 1400 euros last time! (for 10 days) & thats not counting a new suitcase,clothes/footwear/jacket & tons of other bits & peices! going to different countries is an expensive thing these days .

It's only gotten expensive in the last couple of years. On my first solo trip to Europe I spent $5,000 in 2 months visiting 11 countries. On my trip last summer I spent nearly $3,000 visiting 3! It's the exchange rate and the cost airfare that gets me every time. I think they should bring back the Guilder, those were the good old days.

Balou
