+3 - how about a Macro photography master-class thread Bleak?

Sure, happy to give some tips! All the macro photos in this thread were taken with a 50mm 1.4 lens combined with Kenko extender rings. The Kenko rings are a cheap way to give macro capability to almost any lens. They work best with fixed length lenses, eg. 50mm, 85mm, 100mm.

No matter what camera/lens you have, this is how get the most from it:

- Switch to manual focus, and set the focus at the closest distance possible
- Move the camera closer and closer to the object, until you see it come into focus
- Take a number of photos, moving the camera slightly for each shot (later you can choose the one that has the best focus)

If your camera has the ability to change aperture, its best to use higher settings like at least f7, or ideally f10 plus, if you have enough light. This is because the depth of field (area in focus) can be VERY small in macro photography, meaning if you use a lower aperture like f1.4, f2.2, too much of the object will be blurred out.
