Actually the vast majority of shop owners seemed pretty enthusiastic about me snapping pics - it was DEFINITELY a matter of pride for many of them happily showing off their product. The exceptions were rare and yes, please ask before taking a picture (I was only told once no on this trip but Barney's told me in the past no but other tenders have given me the go ahead). Some tips - try to ask AFTER you've purchased your product and make sure no one else is in line waiting to buy. I usually give a euro tip to the tender for letting me snap as well, can't hurt!finicle wrote:how funny are coffeshops bout photoing the menus??

Thanks for the kind words - actually, it felt like we walked less than previous trips! I think alot of it has to do with our familiarity with the city (a dozen or so trips so far) since we either walk or scooter every time. Our Rembrandt Square area apartment allowed us quick access to Rembrandt Square (like 5 to 10 minutes tops) and even the Cuypstraat was a quicker walk than expected. We've learned NOT to follow streets and canals, they'll get you into trouble EVERY time!stecleary84 wrote:great read, great pics and by the looks of it a great trip.
one question tho, how much fricken walking did you do??? looking at your list of CS you pretty much walked the whole city

The next morning we rise, shower and head out for another days merriment! We stop off first at Hill Street on the Market for coffee and spliffs and decide to visit Winterland in Rembrandt Square. First stop...ARABICA!

It's our first visit to Arabica and I KNOW I've said it before but I love this freakin' place. Another locals shop that welcomes tourists; Moroccan owned so you KNOW the coffee's going to be delish and again, the "house special" (not the priciest on the menu either) is recommended and is the BOMB!

I mean, they bring your coffee to you letting you relax in the cosy seats rolling prime hasj...smiling all the while. Can't go wrong!
Warmed from the hasj and cafe, we fight the frosty cold and head into the Christmas vibe of "Winterland"

Full from Big Frank, we make our way back the direction we came but stop off instead to OLD AMSTERDAM:

We were the ONLY patrons in the shop and between the lack of proper coffee (vending machines only, what's up with that?) and the ghastly attitude of the chick working there, we SHOULD have stopped back at the Arabica next door instead! The hasj was good, but not great; I think environment may have played into my review:

Thanks for posting most inspiring report
I like your taste in hash
The Moroccan run coffeeshops sell quality hash at lower prices than the bigger chains Barneys, Hunters etc.
