Thanks again, we've managed to wake up at a reasonable time (now) and I wanted to bust out a quick update before coffee time.

London Dave, we sure try savor every purple smoking, coffeeshopping, canal watching moment we can!

Bonglord, have not yet dared to try one of those giganto burgers yet... It would be my only meal of the day!

So we head out of katsu still full from lunch with a high head full from nepalese ice still playing that stranglers song... Leaving the cuyptstraat we head north towards our apartment for a quick refresh heading towards central station by way of the Vijzstraat and Mellow Yellow. After all, I have a hasj challenge in front of me: size 7 and jungle cream!

It's chilly but not freezing but we walk quickly enough to help get us warm. The advice about dressing in layers is good advice in deed since the shops and restaurants are so warm you wind up freezing yer ass off when you step outside! Our quick pace brings us to MY in no time and we step inside to a quiet shop. Unfortunately the tender seemed to fancy chatting up his buddies more than taking care of us let alone offering advice. It's ok, I'm here on a mission. Of course the first half of my mission had to be aborted - no more size 7! No worries, I spot jungle cream, grab a gram and we're off...

Resuming our return, we pass the mellow yellow lounge... Decorated in green rather than the customary yellow, at first I think it's someone ripping off the name but when I read the sign "smoking allowed" I think it may be like the mellows barney's lounge... Anyone ever gone inside?

Back at the apt we spin up a jungle cream... Unlike the sharp slivers that snap into brittle pieces with the katsus Nepal ice, this hasj has a more squishy feel and breaks up into softer chunks. The high, strong but the sharp nepalese edges were softened and the hasj offered a well balanced attack on both mind and body resulting in a warmer high and a cooler stone! Magnificent!

We head out to exchange some money, returning to the same location and the same woman who took care of us yesterday. She's quite nice, remembers us from before and gives us a beautiful delft tile to take home. Little did we know the best gift of the day and the trip so far would be right around the corner...

Stepping outside the TravelEx in Dam square, I ask my better half.. Where to now? "didn't you want to visit that Voyager place?"

YES, YES

"Well, let's go!". Heading down that street that hugs the last of Chinatown on our left and the canal on our right we trudge north towards the station and, as expected, we come upon Voyagers to the left. Looks the same from the outside, we step into a quiet shop with a blonde dreaded dude behind the counter conversating with a thick accented Jamaican guy. The shop is bright and clean and my wife grabs a choice canal view counter seat while I check out the new, lovely menu. I mention how much the shop has changed and how grateful us folk at ACD are about the shops new makeover. In these politically challenging times it's both refreshing and encouraging to see this happen! "Are you Highly Blessed?" I ask. Yes... "I'm Hasj Dreamer, it's a pleasure to meet you"!

We chat, I mention my intention to sample some butter but later in the trip and he suggests a couple of choice early evening samples... The Lebanese hasj and the lemon haze. Both affordably priced, especially for shop location never mind quality! The hasj had a bright, floral bordering in fruity fragrance and a rich, sweet flavor that provided an uplifting, giddy high. The haze, smoked before dinner a bit later, was cured to perfection and it's small citrus buds filled a bag for the biggest gram I had ever seen! Delectable taste and a great headband high that worked well as a pre meal treat. Having had a bizzaro experience there a few years back with Asian women cooking rice in the shop, HB gives me some history on the shop. Croatian run for 15 years, they employed an Asian man for cleaning who used to let his family come over and cook his meals! Better still, HB produces the ORIGINAL menu, the same one we first read... 20 euro for 2grams shiva, ww or skunk...last two were the same weed and, AND the shiva wasn't EVEN weed, it was that herbal filler Barneys leaves on their tables! Poor bastards got taken for a ride on a kilo of that shit! I snap some pics of both menus as a great before and after shot.

So Blessed starts talking with me a bit more about the forum and opens before me a slab of golden goodness... The infamous butter! Appearing nearly identical to it's namesake, it exudes a sweet, spicy strong aroma and vibe making me wanting nothing more than to slather that sum bitch on a bit of toast and quaff it down! Of course, not waking up for a week would have been a disadvantage. But like a late night television infomercial, he does that whole "but wait, there's more" and pulls out a small jar, cap off filled with a strange alien looking green sludge that immediately assaults my nasal cavities with a pungent, green odor that makes me think I've encountered David Banners radioactive substance...and my god I think I did.

"This is Bonglords SPOON"

...so I'm standing there, staring down at a chunk of butter and a jar of spoon and I'm like, is this moment for real? And HB asks..."Would you like a taste?"

Would I like a taste? WOULD I LIKE A TASTE?

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Highly Blessed ( it was we who were highly blessed) for his hospitality, graciousness and history lesson on the shop! Not to mention is amazingly high quality product and fair pricing... We'll see you soon to sample some butter!

And a special thanks to the infamous US BONGLORD, the only dude I've heard of who crashes the cup, bringing his own should-be-award-winning stash TO Amsterdam. You are the Banksy of weed! Dude, your generosity -spreading cheer like a Rastafarian Santa claus, is 2nd to none... I tip my hat to you good sir!

I ask for a toothpick and meticulously, like a child removing the funny bone from his christmas morning game of operation, remove a speck of grinch green goodness sticking it on the end of my paper. I repeat, terrified to be greedy but wanting to get enough to properly catch that wave. The smudge end, about a quarter, is filled with a touch of tobacco and the rest with tobacco and leb. We carefully toast the tip as to not burn away anything and the first tokes are surprisingly sweet and within moments my head is spinning and I'm grinning like an idiot... I haven't felt such weed privilege since my first trip in the 90's! The floral taste off the leb kicks in but the surreal, cerebral high from the touch of butter pushes its way to the front.

Christmas came early this year, thanks again Bonglord and Blessed...

Cheers Bong Lord :)

I dance my way out of voyagers already anxious to return but we have plans for peking duck at Nam Kee, a china town fixture well known for their version. While very tasty, it wasn't trimmed like we're used to so it was more work than we expected! That's ok, well worth the effort...

A stop over at Blues on the Market for coffee and more of that leb, we hit up green place for end of night smoke... LA Cheese, at 14 euro per. What can I say, I'm a GP fanatic! Crazy ass variety, consistent quality and a ready location; I do believe we've tried half the weed on the menu!

Lots of in room smoking and late night butter noodles and we called it a night...and what a night!

TODAY

we manage to crawl out of bed at a reasonable hour, maybe 9 or so and hit the Hill street for coffee and back to the apartment for a home made breakfast with fixins' from Albert Heijn. Our kitchen rocks!

With the woman itching to do some Winterland shopping and us being low on the solid we work work our way toward Rembrandt square via the Arabica lounge. My virgin visit and my high expectations send me enthusiastically through the door into the take out anti room. Similar to de graal, de keeper and happiness the dealer area is first and you walk through the door inside to make your coffee purchase. The only real downside is the rather obvious attempt to make you feel the need to purchase product rather than encourage the bring your own crowd. Other than that the shop was awesome! Very friendly Moroccan tender who enthusiastically pointed to the Arabica special, cheaper than other Morocs on the menu at only 10 euro per. He shows me a slab, braking it in front of my nose revealing a dense choco goodness wafting up like a rif mountain steam bath! I choose 2 grams and ask for a menu pic. He hesitates but says "go ahead" and I snap a couple before heading in for coffee. We score the perfect window seat and our coffee is brought to us by the smiling keeper and IT IS DELICIOUS. The hasj, dense and choco like was quite similar Babylons Tijdighan and so was the coffee... Come to think of it they are both similar in vibe and I found myself enjoying my minority status feeling a bit privileged , like I'm a guest in a small Ketama cafe!

Our appetites are returning and we find ourselves back at that outdoor grill with the frisbee sized burgers Bonglord was mentioning. We indulge in a shared hot dog with cheese and onions on, get this, a roll baked on site. I have never seen a street vendor baking their own bread. It was obscenely large and just as tasty...

:)

Top job, Arabica Lounge is a hidden gem that for whatever reason not many people go to, I have a receipt for the Arabica Special somewhere, looking forward to seeing the menu.
