Also does it mean even if its in you possesion, coz if not then it is totally pointless.

Isnt it for local council or government to actually implement? This hasnt changed anything really apart from confirm IF the dutch wanted to do it they wouldnt be breaking any eu laws?

Exactly Trad all thats been ruled is that its not illegal or whatever to stop foreigners going into c/s there is no ruling yet from the Dutch authorities

sorry i may sound dumb but can someone tell me what the "420" is please? I keep seeing it pop up on this thread, is it some type of stoners event?

I dont think this ban will come in to effect immediately IMO, at least not in amsterdam and the other bigger cities. I read earlier, somewhere on this forum (not sure which thread as there are so many on this subject) that mastricht wont be making any decisions until next summer and that there current council recently voted against membership cards. Also the mayor of amsterdam disagrees with the plans and will fight it. IMO in a worst case scenario it will be at least 18 months until amsterdam will be affected.

We were kinda expecting this decision by the EU anyway; really, right now it only validates the coffeeshops that have already been closed in the south and ok's MORE closings in the south. I don't see it affecting the 'dam until it becomes a national issue, which it will. BUT we're forgetting that Maastrich (or however you spell it) WANTED to close the shops and the shop owner was fighting the town. In Amsterdam, the Mayor and townspeople WANT the coffeeshops to stay. So as I see it, it's Amsterdam/Randstadt vs the Netherlands.

Where's that quote from the Amsterdam mayor, something about how proud they were of their pot policies..."we INVENTED the coffeeshop"!

Similar note - in town last week, stickers covering "centrum" and "jordaan" under the street signs replaced by "republic of amsterdam". Is that a political, secession style comment? If so, it shows how ready the 'dam is to FIGHT.

I'll keep going until they stop me at the fucking door of Hill Street. Somehow I don't see it happening in Amsterdam, I just don't.

Those in town this week, TALK TO US... I bet the vibe will be the same, Amsterdam and the rest of the Netherlands are like night and day.

Did you ever hear the expression "I fought the law... and the law won"the mayor of the dam,the towns people and the coffeeshop owners wont stand a chance against the government...best to make the most of it while we can

It's a matter of enforcement - if the local government DOESN'T support it, the national government is forced to carry the burden. I think we'll see the rebirth of the unlicensed coffeeshop in Amsterdam and towns with a similar point of view.

It's how it all began in the first place...

I think I'll like the 'underground' scene back to the roots.
I will still got to amsterdam, there will be no problem at all getting smoke, I guess.
