Well as the flight was booked last month for 420 I thought it was time to check out accomodation and went on the usual priceline name your own price..
After 3 bids I eventually got in the same hotel as my last 3 visits at £50 per night, cheapest yet
Yeeeehaaaa can't wait 420 here I come...

i stayed there last 2 years for the last night or 2 at the end ogf my vacations and this last Nov. i had a shitty room , i was on the 3rd floor, old bed and all. try to get a room on the 5th floor the seem like they were renovated.

what have kept me from bidding is the fact that i might end up the moevenpick and they dont have smoking rooms you have to smoke outside in the bloody cold

You were lucky mate you got the nh ams just ask for a room on the third floor. entire floor smells of weed or on the 5th floor like matty suggested some have balconies

when i was there in NOv 28-30th, i was on the 3rd floor, non smoking room, the room was a bit shabby compaired to when i was there last year, this year i was on the third floor older room , the 5th floor room i had 2 years ago was really nice. but for the money you really cant complain.

We got a room near top floor with TWO balconies, it really was awesome.

How did you swing that to get the balconies, did you call up and request the room type?

I have always just turned up and both times I've been on the 3rd floor, one room had a cracking view over the road and towards the square, the last time it must have been round the back as I was over looking a concrete jungle, plus point with that room was the huge window opened completely so it made me less paranoid with smoking.

However I must say the 3rd floor didn't really smell of weed and it did make me a little concious of smoking mine, but the sound of having a balcony is heaven, hmmm can just see me sitting out there with my croissant and cheese

I might just remind them it's my 3rd visit and how's about floor 5 with a balcony, they can only say no

Are you sure that you're not getting the nh Amsterdam Centre with the nh City Centre? All the the rooms at the Amsterdam Centre have modern decor with good facilities and I didn't think there were any bad rooms.

Hi, no i'm not getting confused.
I just checked all my documentation and it's the NH Amsterdam Centre

I've stayed at the NH Amsterdam Centre twice, on both the third and fifth floors. The third floor rooms are just standard rooms while the fifth floor are executive rooms. It's luck of the draw for which one you will get. You can upgrade to the Executive floor for 25 euro a day upon check in.

Sorry for the confusion , my post wasn't really aimed at you. It was mentioned by somebody that they stayed in a shabby room at the Amsterdam Centre. I've stayed at the nh Amsterdam Centre a few times and my rooms have been very modern every time. But, the similarly named nh City Centre is meant to have some older, less nice rooms.

If it is the place right by the flower market some of the rooms are a little shabby by normal 4 star standards but if you get the right price on priceline bidding etc who cares!
You can smoke to your hearts content in the rooms and the location is excellent for loads of coffeeshops within staggering distance and other attractions like the aforementioned flowermarket,cinema,bars,clubs and restaurants.

That's the nh Carlton, that is at the corner of the Flower Market and Vijzelstraat. The rooms aren't as nice as the nh Amsterdam Centre but as you say, it's in a great location.

I managed to snag a 5th floor room and those balconies are great. It made the morning wake and bake so much nicer. Two years ago, I stayed a smoke free hotel in the Jordan and was a little paranoid trying to blow smoke out the open window. Here I just smoked, chilled, and watched the city wake while enjoying the gorgeous view. Simply wonderful.

Stayed 2 nights last week - Adam was really busy and smoking room choices were limited so it cost me ! (last min arrangements)

Was allocated a 4th floor N/S room initially , - but got it swopped as I had requested the obvious !

So the 3d floor didnt really reek of weed , - and I did smoke in the room with window open etc , with no problem.

Pretty characterless hotel all round I though , but it did the business - and the location was smewhat convenient for "shopping" etc.
