I've only been able to get over there one time so far. I bought Silver Bubble and Chocolope. I thought the Chocolope was the more flavorful of the two, but they were both good highs.

Unfortunately they were out of the Martian Mean Green when I was there on Sunday. I'm gonna try and get back there this weekend when I'm off work.

More to come on the rest of day 2 tomorrow, just got back from de Kuil and amnesia and I'm ready to crash. :)

Day 2 - Sunday - Part Two

One of the nice things about travel is the 21st century is the ability to navigate a foreign city with nothing more than a smartphone and an internet connection. Google maps will give you directions to anywhere in the city, from where you are currently standing, including which tram to take and in how many minutes it will be arriving. Yelp's Monocle feature will give you a 360 degree augmented reality view of all the restaurants around you and their average rating by reviewers. Wonderful stuff and it makes navigating Amsterdam a breeze.

All of this is a long way of saying: I got out my iphone4 and quickly dialed up some directions back to the Dam square. Exit the tram and head west and cross the Singel. Desitination: Oude Leiliestraat. My first stop was not a coffeeshop though but rather a very special chocolate shop. Puccini Bomboni. Amazing truffles and other choclate decadences. Three packs of what my wfie says is the "best hot cocoa in the world" for her, four caramel truffles for me please! Those treats safely packed into my bag, next stop: Grey Area! I had already picked up substantial supplies during my crawl in de Pijp earlier in the day, but I wanted to stock up with some nice gear for the planned Toke and Talk later that night. As is so often the case at GA, there was quite a crowd in line to purchase the kind buds that are on sale there. Having been shut out the day before when they were closed, there was no way I was going to miss out today. So hop in line and grab a copy of a menu that someone so kindly hands me. Picture time (apologies for the poor quality this is with the camera on my phone):

One of the reasons why i don't mind waiting in line here is that I know when I get to the counter, I will have plenty of time to make my selections, just like all the folks in front of me. The tenders here are so patient, always willing to show you whatever you want to see/smell. They give good recommendations depending on desired effect. And they never, ever try to "upsell" on the weight. Despite the crowd scene, my opinion of this shop goes up with every visit. After about 10 minutes of waiting, my turn! Good afternoon, canI please see the Silver Bubble and the Chocolope. "No problem" and I'm immediately presented with two tubs overflowing with huge nugs that smell heavenly. 1 gram of each please thank you very much!! 8)

Of course it was too busy to stay and smoke at GA so right turn on Prinsengracht and on to Amnesia. This time not nearly as crowded, but still to crowded to get a table seat. Instead I dropped my stuff at one of the the bar seats along the windows and headed to the budtender's counter. I've been trying a lot of NYCD this trip so 1 gram of that for 13 euro. And after reading different views on the Tangerine Dream, I decided I better take a look for myself. The tub of buds that I was presented certainly smelled wonderful so what the hell 1g of that too please, 14 euro. Last purchase, vanilla shake YUM!

Back to my seat and I ground up most of the Tangerine Dream and filled a cone. As I fire it up Snoop Dog starts booming on the stereo. "Yeaah...and you don't stop!" mmm....this stuff tastes real nice. Maybe there was some quality problems around the time of the cup but I have to say the batch I got from Amnesia was very very nice, burnied to a fluffy white ash and delivered a powerful sativa high.

After smoking the cone of Tangerine Dream and enjoying my shake, the jet lag + many hours of walking was starting to catch up to me. So back up the Singel towards the hotel and upstairs for a little rest before the T&T at Basjoe.

Bonus pic: morning view from the counter at Anyday....

After chilling at the hotel for a coule of hours and grabbing some dinner, in was time to head for my scheduled Toke and Talk at 8pm. I grab some of my special purchases from the day, throw on my coat and out the door of the hotel. Cross Spui and then right onto Niuewezjids Voorburgwal. From there I continue to work my way south east until I find my self at the door to Basjoe.

I arrived a few minutes after 8 and no one was giving me any significant glances so i assumed I was the first to arrive. I purchased 1 g of Bas Speical for 12 euro plus a pear looza for 2.50 euro (seems a bit high?!).

I sat down, put an ACD map on the table and proceeded to roll up my purchase of the Bas special. I smoked that while I waited for the others to arrive. The Bas Special was nice but nothing spectacular. After finshing the whole joint and no one approaching me I was beginning to get worried. No fear, just roll another joint! :) So out came the Chocolope and just as I was finishing that in walked Ohm Sweet Ohm and immediately introduced himself to me. Followed closely behind by Tuttiflutes who had just finished locking up the bikes. Introductions all around and I thanked them so much for coming out. Tuttiflutes headed off to the counter to say hi to James. In the meantime Ohm produced from his pocket an amazingly large chunk of some Morrocan Super Polm and passed me a pipe loaded with some. Very nice taste which I enjoyed very much. I returned his favor by firing up and passing him the joint of chocolope that I had just finished rolling. I have to say I really like the taste and the high of the Chocolope, a very nice strain and top quality from Grey Area.

As ohm and I are passing around the pipe and joint, Tutti returns with a nice bag of Heaven Haze plus a gigantic nug of some mystery weed that James just gave her for use in our T&T. A very nice touch and that's one nice thing about visiting Basjoe's with folks who know James. Tutti rolls up some of the Heaven Haze and passes that around while we share details about our lives and our adventures in Amsterdam. We were soon deep in conversation and Tutti was working hard to convince me to move my family to Amsterdam. A fantasy I have often had and she made a convincing argument! Who knows what the future will hold?

After about an hour, Winnie also joined us at Basjoe and yet more joints were passed around. It was great to meet her and to spend some time with three Amsterdam residents and get their unique perspective on life in this city that we all love. I lost count of the number of joints we smoked, but I do remember at one point that we rolled up a mixed weed/hash joint using the Gerdera I had gotten at Papillon. That is a very nice hash and everyone commented on the nice taste.

After 2 or 3 hours of talking and smoking it was time to go our seperate ways. I had to work in the morning so had to be to bed at a decent hour, and Ohm was ready for a nice meal. We all said our goodbyes and I once again thanked them for coming out. I have to admit I'm a shy person so the idea of hosting a T&T, but I'm really glad I did it as I got to meet three very nice folks in the real world. Thanks very much to Ohm, Tutti, and Winnie for coming out and making me feel so welcome! I had a great time.

So that was a great end to an epic day in Amsterdam. 8 coffee shops and 13 grams purchased. 8)

In my next installment..."real life" in Amsterdam as I have to start working on Monday.

Actually I don't own a DSLR, the majority of the pics were taken with my trusty Fuji F11 point and shoot. :!: Nothing compared to today's cameras but it has really nice low light shooting capabilities. Glad you enjoyed my Singel evening photo, that was a circumstance where I was at the right place and the right time + got extremely lucky.

Since you mentioned using it as wallpapere, here's a link to the full size photo, enjoy!
