Dutchnews.nl reported yesterday that if the government goes ahead with there plans to close all coffee shops within 350 meters of schools then 6 out of 10 coffee shops in the country will have to close with Amsterdam having to close 187 out of the 223 they have. The government plans to release a so called "green paper" by the end of the month highlighting there full intentions in regards to soft drugs, this will also include any plans they have for the membership card scheme.
I really cant see Amsterdam closing 187 coffee shops, what do you guys think?
6 out of 10 coffee shops to possibly close?
Re: 6 out of 10 coffee shops to possibly close?
From the same article:
"Amsterdam city council is strongly opposed to the government's plans, arguing they will encourage street dealers"
I think we should focus on this and not on every crazy thing this coalition tries to do...

Re: 6 out of 10 coffee shops to possibly close?
Its probably a marketing ploy like when HGF was 'shutting down'. That may have been real, may have been fake, sure made some people rush to it for one last smoke there. Its the Dutch Giovernments answer to the credit crunch
The future for CS in Amsterdam does not look good. Simply look at the last few years history (dont know exact dates)...
2000- Stricter on 5g maximum purchase
2004- No alcohol in coffeeshops
2008- No tobbacco in coffeeshops (since lifted I believe)
Thats 3 lost battles there in a decade, cant think of any wins (possibly the smoking ban lifted but not 100% on this). There just killing the Pawns before getting to the King and Queen (and horsies and castles!) Checkmate at some point this year I think.

The loss of alcohol was just another loss of freedom in coffeeshops.

yo
on the 17th DEC they said the hague would take a couple months to decide, so we shld be alrite (im goin 28-31 jan)
i cant see them doin it becuase effectivley they wld be giving ppl cards to buy weed making it a legal entity. they also said if they did do the weed pass thing then they wld have to make the cultivation of weed legal and the goverment doesnt wanna do that. what they want to do it stop the drug trade of ppl coming in from belgium france and germany to the southern coffeshops. TBH i think amsterdam central and dam in generel will be untouchable, they make alot money from the tax on coffeshops they dont wnna lose that in a recession. this is all based on a dutch news report i watched and translated.
