Re: AMSTERDAMS BEST COFFEESHOP?
the subject 'best coffeeshop' i think is too difficult a question to really answer, becuase everyones definition of best is based on many different factors, ambience/service/weed availble/history/location/etc. etc.
but i do think that if i had to suggest to someone ONE coffeeshop they should go to, to experience the coffeeshop expereince i would pick the Rokerij. the one near leidseplein, i think thats Rokerij 1.
the rokerij has one of the best 'chill out' vibes and one of the most thoughtfull interiors.the menu is perfectly decent, and personally speaking the best hot chocolates in town. and i know almost every shop uses chocomel with squirty cream, but it just seems better at the rokerij

Re: AMSTERDAMS BEST COFFEESHOP?
I lived in Amsterdam for over a year between 2008 and 2009/10. Here’s a few reviews of the coffeeshops that really stuck out to me whilst I was there. I will say that Amsterdam is full of average to poor coffeeshops and for every decent place you find there will be at least 2 bad ones. Also don’t expect staff to be that knowledgeable… most just know the difference between indica and sativa. Definitely don’t listen to the staff if you’re a grower or know your weed- I guarantee you’ll know more than them!! I listed some of my favourite strains I tried, but as I lived there for so long there were probably loads more good ones.
BARNEYS
Lets start with the most famous and probably the biggest. 3 locations, 2 on haarlemerstraat and 1 just off Rembrandt square (Barneys Lounge). Generally very good quality weed, but you’ll pay for it!! Drinks and food are also expensive, but like the weed generally good quality. Barneys gets very busy!! If you want a quieter Barneys experience try the Lounge off Rembrandt square, but its not guaranteed it’ll be quiet. Recent reports have suggested the quality of their weed has dipped.
Favourites: Sweet Tooth. G13 haze, Morning Glory
GREENHOUSE
Another massive ‘brand’. Has won the most Cannabis Cups of any coffeeshop (not that it means much, lol!). 3 locations, Haarlemerstraat, Red Light District and Waterlooplein. Haarlemerstraat is my favourite of the 3 with a big fish tank in the floor! Weed is generally fairly standard, but you do get the occasional gem! Prices are similar to Barneys if not slightly cheaper. Watch out for the 65 year old bouncer at the Red Light shop- he’s a dick and doesn’t like tobacco, needs his hip breaking the geriatric old fucker.
Favourites: Trainwreck, Super Silver Haze, Super Lemon haze
DAMPKRING/ TWEEDE KAMER
City centre shop featured in Oceans 12, I don’t think its been renovated since either which is pretty cool. 3 locations- original shop and Tweede Kamer are just off the shopping streets in the centre of town, their new shop is on Haarlemerstraat. The new shop being my favourite, the counter has a glass cabinet that holds samples of everything on the menu for you to inspect closely. Good weed, decent price, just don’t wear a hat inside- you’ll get shouted at! Staff generally quite friendly but not so talkative.
Favourites: Mango haze, Amnesia Skunk, Cheese
AMNESIA
Part of the Barneys group, so carry a lot of the same strains with a few exceptions. Very nice coffeeshop with mainly purple and black interior. This place has some of the best weed in the dam, but you’ll have to pay for it. You can smoke with tobacco here as long as you’re not really blatant, good selection of weed too!! Loads of very clean bongs to use and 3 volcano vaporisers! Drinks prices are standard, and the coffee here is really good!! Can get very busy here also as it isn’t the biggest seating area. They also don’t seem to like large groups of English lads, LOL should we be surprised!!
Favourites: Amnesia Lemon, OG Kush, Sour Diesel
GREY AREA
Just round the corner from Amnesia is a little gem of a coffeeshop, with the emphasis on ‘little’!! You could probably seat 8 people in there at a real push. Howvever, what it lacks in size it makes up for in shear quality of bud. Always among the best bud in town, and has lots of interesting strains only available there!! They have a link with DNA seeds so do a lot of their strains. Good prices too, not cheap but I never felt ripped off. The owner Adam (the ginger jesus) is really cool too!
Favourites: Silver Bubble, BB Cheese, Chiesel, Grey Berry, Canalope haze, OG Kush
HOMEGROWN FANTASY
Probably the best all round coffeeshop in the dam. Decent sized seating area (inc tables outside) very reasonably priced bud and really nice staff. Very English friendly!! Really central location too, 5 mins down the main road from central station.
They also have a good selection of bongs pipes etc for you to use.
Favourites: Pure haze, Sour Kush
BULLDOG
Avoid at all costs, masters of the bait and switch and a total tourist trap. Anywhere that needs that many bouncers has to be doing something worng!! GASH.
UK 420
Cool little place that used to be mainly be a bar- small coffeeshop menu but they occasionally have some real gems!! I’ve never thought much to their hash though.
It’s a really good place to sit and relax too. Good location (just off Damrak), De Kroon coffeeshop is also opposite and have heard its worth checking out too.
Favourites: Super Silver haze, New York City Diesel
ROKERIJ
3 locations- Rembrandt square, just off Haarlemerstraat and just off Leidseplein square. Really cool inside- African tribal art, morrocan seating, low seats, loads candles etc. You feel really chilled out walking in, then you speak to the staff and they totally ruin it. How can anyone serving drinks get pissed off when you ask for a drink?! I don’t think they like the English too much at the Leidseplein shop… just the impression I got. Still worth going to check out the inside.
Favourites: Lemon Skunk
HUNTERS
2 coffeeshops on Warmoestraat. Big menus, mainly fairly standard weed but again occasionally some gems!! Perfect for a smoke pre/ post ‘window shopping’ in the red light district. Friendly staff mainly, the smaller coffeeshop (next to the asain restaurant) will be much warmer to English customers. A little more expensive for drinks- probably due to location.
Favourites: Laughing Buddha, Bubblegum, Amnesia haze
BUSHDOCTOR
2 coffeeshops on either side of Rembrandt square. They only sell 2g bags of weed here, but its all of a very good quality. Its also some of the best cured weed I ever saw in Amsterdam. Guaranteed no wet weed sold here! You also get a can for your 2 euros as opposed to a 200ml bottle- definite bonus! They have a big menu, and always seem to have something different. They also do some killer Ice/ Bubble hash made from the strains they have at the time. Last time I saw the menu it was AK47 or Kali Mist ice hash!! Be warned this stuff is lethal- and that’s on the wallet as well as the lungs!! Overall a very cool place with a decent amount of seating and some very strong weed.
Oh yeah 2 other places to check out once you’ve bought your weed:
THE WINSTON HOTEL/ BELUSHIS BAR
Really cool hotel and hostel very popular with young travellers. Has an awesome bar and beer garden that non residents can use (after buying a drink). Its smoker friendly- usually 50% of the people outside are smoking. There’s also an indoor smoking area for poor weather as well as a really good food menu; beware the portions are massive! Becks beer and vodka and a mixer are 2 for 1 upto 9pm everyday too!
Where do you smoke when the coffeeshops shut at 1am?
THE WATERHOLE (Leidseplein square)
A biker bar that’s open til 3am (4am on FRI & SAT). They have live bands every night from 10pm, and beer is 2 for 1 until 7pm. They have a smoking terrace outside and also an indoor smoking area where you can smoke joints all night!! Really friendly Hells Angels doorstaff, always gets busy and only 2 euro to get in all night.
LOS PILONES (Best restaurant in town!)
Located 2 streets before you get to Leidseplein square. Amazing Mexican restaurant owned by 2 brothers from Mexico City. No nachos or tex-mex served here, just the best Mexican food and Margaritas you can get in Europe! Its small however, with approx 12 tables + the bar so get there early. They even make their own tequila: white, gold and 3 year aged, if you’re a tequila fan it’s a must try!!
Hope this helps, keep it green and enjoy the dam! If anyone has anymore specific questions on anything to do with the dam, send me a message I’ll be happy to help.

Paradox due to it's laid back vibe. It's not trying to be something it isn't. It is what is it. A a a relaxing and chilled coffeeshop which I enjoyed due to being out the way of all the crowds. Sat and read old national geographics for hours whilst enjoying good coffee and quality LA Con
