looking for a double room for 420 basic but clean but must have a private bathroom with a bath and ideally come with breakfast (not for me) as cheap as possible only found one hotel De Roode Leeuw which is way to expensive.. anyone able to help

Try priceline uk stuart, I know it's a gamble with what you get but going by my previous bookings I've always ended up with NH Amsterdam Centre never paying more than £60 a night, in fact it was £50 for 420 but breakfast isn't included as mine usually just consists of a joint
Its classed as 4 star superior and is fairly nice especially if they fire you in a good room and there's no way you'd find anywhere else of that star cheaper.

From my research, what you are looking for is more or less in the 3 Star category (or B&B), and won't be on the cheap.

Stayed there last time and me and a mate had a large room with a very clean, en-suite with a bath and shower curtain, all we had to do was pull apart the two single beds and put the two bedside cabinets in between to make it a lot less gay for us.

got it booked again for march.

i agree Priceline might be the way to go, there is also the hotel Cornerhouse,

I was thinking about going for my own room this april myself (cos the gf dont like the idea of me sharing a dorm with a load of strangers?). But the cost at best would have been near double the €30 per night I'd be paying for the dorm bed. But non of the places I looked at mentioned a bath, just a shower.

So good luck finding anywere cheap stuart, guess there must be some places that meet your needs. But what about the place you stayed at last year?, thought you said that was quite big for what you payed?.
