OMG what a joke, the proposal of complete legalisaton of all recreational drugs in the holland, I cant say i agree with this but at least it means the government will definatley have a big a fight on there hands if they continue with the "no tourists in coffee shops" idea, I mean if the dutch people are in favour of dangerous Class A drugs becoming legal surely they cant argue against relatively harmless Marijuana......

Slightly misleading to say that Dutch people support the ban; in order to get the Dutch parliament to debate the issue they need 40000 sigs (the population is 16,000,000 roughly so thats .25% of the Dutch are in favour). Having said that, i am broadly in favour of a program of legalisrtion of SOME drugs (i reckon we could tackle the Herion isue differently) with the focus on harm reduction and not a massive nationalised bender*. However politics and rational evidenced debate are uncomfortable bed fellows....see David Nutt saga.

In short even if the amount of people were massively in favour of what the guy is saying (and i can point out several stumbling blocks with that) the government will take little or no notice of them as politicans are (with few noteworthy exceptions) THE SCUM OF THE FUCKING EARTH AND SHOULD BE MADE TO LINE UP AND BE IMPALED ON A MASSIVE SPIKE and as such have decided what they want to do before the evaluate what they should be doing....i.e. Iraq war

* for the non Brits a bender is a long period of getting oneself in a serious mess through consumption of drink and drugs, it is not a euphamism for a friend of Dorothy

My thoughts are don't read Irish papers to find out what is going on in the Netherlands.

Every country has groups who want total legalization. 40,000 signatures out of 15 million is not a big deal, imho.

I'll believe it when I walk into a coffeeshop and they refuse to serve me, until then it's all piss and wind.
