Just thought to ask as with all the reports etc saying how people enjoy having a smoke out the window seeing what they can see etc. Well I'm kind of getting the feeling I'm missing out on a great experience of looking out a window at night before bed and first thing in the morning having a bloody good smoke gathering ones thoughts etc thats simply not possable with the planned dorm I'll probably end up doing april.

So I've thought to look about to see what or how cheap I can get a private room with a window for. Problem is limited budget of say €40-€50 per night. I know some places might say from €40 or near that. But going through the availability\booking process the price in then in excess of the from price. Am I simply wasting my time looking for private for that price and should stick to my original dorm idea or is there any cheap private rooms going for a not to fussy person at a stated price rather than estimated price?. Been looking on a few sites just cant seem to find anything?

Yes it is definitely possible. Hotel Gronendael is a very basic hotel on Niuwendijk, a single private room is €35pn but you will have to share shower and toilet in the hall. Smoking is allowed out of the window.
Hotel Cornerhouse just off Dam square is roughly €45pm, again shared facilities. I have always got on OK here but some ropey reports recently.
Hotel Voyagers is €55pn for a single, I think with private toilet and shower, I have not stayed here but am booked in for March. I have heard good reports and it is above a coffeeshop.

I stay at the Old Quarter on Warmoesstraat , E45 per night inc brekkie ,basic room,shared shower/toilet, smoke in the rooms no prob good luck wherever you end up

Thanks guys, going to check them all out. Still going to have to wait a few weeks before confirming any accomodation anyways. As the rest of my money (liqudating some old assets on ebay lol) wont be raised for about 2 weeks yet. So untill then I wont know for sure just how much I'll have to go with.

Then again cheap dorm= more smokeables private room=less smokeables but good for a smoke to roll into bed with at night lol.

Hotel Pax is also another good alternative, I paid 43 E per night this past summer. Private room with shared bathroom and smoking friendly if you open a window.

I always use it and it gives good prices. I will be staying on the Amstel Botel (a little out the way, I know but now I prefer to get away from the hustle and bustle of the City and relax after a heavy day of smoking. The boat trip back and forth is pretty relaxing too). Going for 2 nights and paid £80 bed and breakfast. That was for both me and my missus! (She paid, was my birthday pressie).

Here is a thought, what are the chances of getting somewere cheaper if I leave it untill the last minute?. Say go on the 18th and look for digs no later than the 16th?. I guess this works both ways in that some places may lower there prices just to fill a room while others may rise the price?.

Prehaps I'll just stick with the dorm idea unto the point where I'll really have to book somewhere just before I go as the gf will only panic if I bugger off to the airport with nowhere to stay lol.

When i went on my own last April (after the ashcloud had cleared), i stayed in a 4 bed mixed dorm with private toilet for 3 nights and it cost me as little as 15e per night, and on 2 of the nights there was only 1 other person in the room who smoked weed aswell so all was good.....

Dont think you will get it cheaper if you wait , but you may not get anything at all its a busy time the prices are the prices unless you do one of these bid sites
