question about money management
is it safe to carry an atm card in your wallet or not worth the risk? I have one of those wallets that goes around your neck but I dont want to look like a tourist.
anyway another question. my friend and I are both heavy smokers. I know the dutch weed is more potent than our weed. That said how many grams need to be bought per day to keep you in a haze throughout the day? Would 4 or so grams do? A little goes a long way i assume. I am supposed to make a budget list for expenses on the backpacking trip. Trying to make a daily budget for weed and I cant figure it out. I shouldn't have smoked that last blunt haha.

in my personal opinion, its not such a great idea to wear your wallet out in the open around your neck either. someone could just snatch it and run like hell. if you're worried about your stuff, i suggest getting something like this: http://www.ebags.com/eagle_creek/underc ... delid=5694
it's pretty much like a fanny pack except flatter, thinner, and lighter, and you wear it under your pants instead of over. as for the weed, someone else would be better suited to answer that as I'm going on my first trip as well next month.

I personally don't carry my normal wallet in my back pocket, i had a 'travel wallet' thing that went on my belt in the front and just covered it with my shirt. Never felt that anything would have happened even if i had a handful of cash....but i am a big guy and not to sound like a prick but i think most petty thieve relize its not worth it try to rip off someone of my stature........so just be smart and vigilante (as a stoner can be) and you will be fine.
as for dosage of Dutch herb......yes it very good, but its not some kinda 'super weed'. I'd imagine up in Seattle you get to sample some of the good shit from Canada?? You probably won't find much that is signifcantly better than that kinda stuff. I was expecting to be completely wasted off one hit of anythng ovver there and it just didn't happen. The herb over there is on par with the really good stuff available here, in fact i've had a few 'medicinal' strains here that blow everything (except the 'Blue Cheese') i had over there away. To sum it up, plan on smoking slightly less than you would at home (unless you are puffin on schwag).

I've always carried my wallet in my front jeans pocket with no problems, I think around the neck may be asking for trouble.
The budget is a very hard one to answer, but a lot depends on how you smoke - I'd say vaporisors are the most economical way of smoking...most good coffeeshops have them now for customers to use (free). If you're smoking spliffs, I'd say 4-6 grams a day would be the minimum for a heavy smoker for an all day/all night session. If you smoke neat joints, maybe even more. You can pick up some good 5g deals at the Grey Area and a few other coffeeshops - I got some lovely outdoor Haze in Feb there for €23 if my memory serves me correctly (appx. 10% chance).
Haarlem is 20 minutes away on the train, and apparently better deals are available there, away from all the tourists. In Amsterdam you can pay anywhere between €3 and €40 per gram, but you can get great weed for €6-10 with a little research. I dunno how much it was, but Pink Floyd's Dirty Jack Herrer impressed me last time for strength to price ratio. Try some hash too if you don't get that back home. Avoid tourist rip-off places by reading the ACD thoroughly and you'll find some amazing variety out there. I'd recommend the Bluebird and De Dampkring for the best choice in town, particularly hash-wise.
If you want a totally ballpark figure, I'd say €30 a day for a moderate to heavy smoke, €50 for a real day to forget.

I had a bag with a large strap that went over my head and across my shoulder and kept everything in that when I was out during the day.
Read about how people could dislodge the strap from behind you either by cutting it or unbuckling the clip that attaches the strap to the bag. The strap was fairly tight to my front and back so I guess I would have felt something but I always kept my hand down by the bag itself just incase.
I only took enough money for what I was going to do and left the rest in the safe in my hotel room, which I returned to whenever a topping up of funds was required.
I left the bag in the hotel room at night and only took some cash and my passport with me (just incase) and I stored both in an inside jacket pocket. The jacket was fastened most of the time, especially if I was out and about on the streets.
I got by rather easily on 100 Euros daily budget and always had good change left at the end of the night. I am more of a drinker than a smoker though.

thanks for the advice guys.
mazdog: the weed up here is good and I usually smoke good weed but..not any REAL"FIRE FIRE" as they say. I smoke high grade mids. The extremely potent stuff that my dealer gets is OVERPTICED. so I refuse to buy it. He gets northern lights, catpiss(its as train that smells like catpiss unfortunatly..but is VERY potent) but then he slaps an enormous price tag on. He has northern lights and is selling it for $500 an opunce. Naturally my brother and I basically told him to piss off. So that said I dont soke any weed that is super. Its all good quality mids.
as for the thing around my neck. I was going to put it under my shirt not over.

I agree with space boy, I usualy take +/- 75 Euros out of my wallet at the start of the day and go back to the hotel to get more if necessary.
I would budget on 100 - 125 Euros per day for a heavy smoker, but this would also include drinks, snacks beers and weed.
The weed you can get varies from 5 euros - 12 euros per gram (central CS does good deals 12.50 for about 2,5 grammes), the better hashes work out slightly more (up to 15euros) and Ice can be anything, I don't go for Ice hashes myself. I spend 50 - 60 Euro on weed per day which is probably about 6-8 grammes.
The other thing to consider is that when I was there for the 420 meet up, most of you guys from the US were smoking without tobacco, I smoke with. I'm sure the guys who were smoking whithout, were going through more weed than me.
Hope this helps

Hi cantona7 (great name by the way!!)
I got one of those traveller pouces to go around your neck, and like you siad obviously supposed to wear it under your shirt - over the shirt would be a sign asking to be hassled by beggers etc.!! I personally don't bother as I find it irritaing more than anything - during the winter I find I can fit my wallet, passport, smoking accessories in my inside pockets of my jacket. If I am just wearing shorts, then I make sure they have zips on the pockets to be extra safe but never felt at anytime that someone was going to try anything.
As for budget - I consider myself to be a strong/heavy smoker but only smoke pipes/bongs/vapo and find I go through a fair bit less weed than my friend (or others on this forum by the sound of it) who smoke it in joints (both with or without tobacco). I give myself roughly €50 for smoke per day (alowing for about 5-6g of topish menu weed/hash per day). Then around just €40 for food and drinks throughout the day - I hardly ever have more than 3-4 beers whilst smoking aswell and a quick stop off at a street vendor is enough for grub for the day. Obvioulsy only a average guide, I don't stick to it exact myself but find this is good guidlines for my own trips.
As for Ajax tickets, try looking here

thanks for the advice valo. I saw HIM in concert here in washington at the gorge with NIN in may..great show..atleast i think thats the guy from him in your avi.
I think I will try and get my daily budget to ATLEAST 80 euros thenb ebcause it seems like 70 wont be enough. I will be using vapos alot too though so i guess that will help. I tried the ajax site but it only has tickets for the amsterdam tourny..so i guess im a little to early yet and maybe the eridivisie schedule has not been released as of yet.
what are some of these cheap resturants i keep hearing about on here. where you can get a good Italian meal for under 10 euros? sounds like my kinda thing. Probably get stuff at vendors and delis like I said.

Yep that is the great Ville Valo on my avatar, the lead singer from HIM - who happen to be my fave band, you may have noticed
I missed this years tour but saw them on Haloween a couple of years back - an awesome and memorable night!!
If I remember I will take a picture of the Italian place I mentioned in another thread - I doubt I will stop in, mainly as I am going solo but I'm more than happy to stick with food stalls and Wok to Walk for a couple of days...lazy quick food wins in Amsterdam for me.

Probably not good quality, but it's quick, relatively cheap and damn tastey when you been on a coffeeshop crawl all day/night. My friend and I always joke about the countless stale waffels we have bought on the way back to the hotel at night, but most of the daytime open food vendors at least seem fresher (even if they may not be).cantona7 wrote:Is the food good quality?
I never tried Herring and onions on the street, I know I will like it but am more consious of having bad breath for the remainder of the day (mints don't seem to kill the smell of fish I found).
